Week Latte #13

ROLLY Mag

Hey lovely people, happy Friday!

No Friday feeling around here because I work in retail haha. It’s ok, my weekend will come on Thursday šŸ˜…

I was sick with a head cold last week and then have worked a lot this week. I’m really feeling the stretch when it comes to my blog and IG. So much I want to do but so little time.

I won’t lie, I used to think “you can make time for blogging” which I still agree with.

But sometimes I literally can’t take photos because I’m home at 11pm and there’s no sunlight. Or sometimes I just want to go to sleep instead of writing a blog post.

Another side effect of having a fuller plate, I can’t engage with my favourite blogs! I need to get on the gram soon and go on a massive “like and comment spree” because it’s likely I’ve missed your post sometime throughout my hectic week!

One more thing!

I got a email this week asking if I’d like to try a product and I haven’t replied yet because I’m in two minds. On one hand, yes I’d love to try a new product- of course! But on the other, this product I would not normally pick up myself. So it feels almost as if I’d say yes for the sake of it. Of course I would be honest to you guys about my thoughts, but still I’m torn.

I would love to see my fave bloggers talk about the behind the scenes which is why I’m sharing that story here. I’ll keep you updated on what I choose to do.

For now, the links!

Homey Oh My shared these cookies on IG and declared them the best cookies ever. Try them for yourself here.

Mamamia Beauty dubbed The Inkey List as “the new Ordinary” and I, for one, am excited! They are simple and affordable in their approach to skincare, available exclusively from Sephora.

I don’t have a huge travel bug, but NYC does sound extra dreamy after reading this post by Krystal Bick.

Another reason I lust over New York, Tara. The imagery she and Krystal created here. Oh my god- stunning.

The Aussie sustainable fashion Instagrammers are killing the game right- they are so fun and inspirational in their styling but also in their philosophy. How good is this 14 Day Style Revival Challenge by Hannah at Never Ever Pay Retail (seriously though, never ever everrrrrrrr!!) It’s never too late to start!

My other faves Insta babes in this field:

Meg @riprrp

Tina @trashtotreasured

Yas @budget_chic

Dani @luxeandlemonade

Niketa @thesouthsidehunter

Bonnie has released a palette designed for everyone- kinda like Maybelline “Made for all” and Maarks lippies! I love this idea, takes the guess work out of finding your shade, gives you more confidence shopping online and honestly, is ultimately for the lazy like me who can’t be bothered with swatches haha! See for yourself here.

I got my Tribe skincare order this week and I’m obsessed! Cortney wrote a blog post about Tribe this week too (as well as celebrating her 2 year blog-iversary yay!) which makes me want literally the entire collection.

Happy reading!

Going ā€œout outā€ makeup

ROLLY Mag

On Saturday night, I went ā€˜out out’ for the first time in quite a while. We were celebrating a friend’s 19th birthday so it gave me the perfect opportunity to actually use some of my makeup.

I thought I’d run you through what was on my face.

Some things didn’t change from my usual routine, including primer. My old faithful, OMShe.

Next I used my NYX colour corrector, also an everyday item.

Then I did something wild, I got out my Sukin Face Mist and covered my beauty blender with it. I was so proud of myself for remembering to do this- thanks to Alana, because I was watching this video of hers whilst simultaneously getting ready.

Lol, jokes on me through because I didn’t even end up using the sponge.

I used my fingers to apply the Innoxa Foundation. I have not used this in a long time, but remember really loving it.

Normally, I wouldn’t use an SPF foundation for a night out but I really just wanted to use this!

It is such a good, light-medium dewy base. Love.

For concealer I used a $4 Target brush and Rimmel Wake Me Up.

Followed by my kabuki brush and powder foundation, both from The Body Shop.

Here, things get a little different.

I mean, it’s my same old Rimmel bronzer, but I haven’t worn this for, 2 months maybe? Love it.

Followed by my trusty Sportsgirl highlight. Normally I use this as eyeshadow as well, but thought I mixed it up.

I used the rose gold Ulta3 shadow stick on my lids, Innisfree brow mascara on my eyebrows and L’Oreal Telescopic on my lashes.

On my lips, two new products! The Australis universal liner- had really high hopes for this but honestly, I’m disappointed. It is such a tiny, thin application that the product actually snapped. So I rubbed that chunk into my lips with my finger. It was nice but I don’t really want to rely on that for application. For lippie, I went with the Stylondon that Nicky kindly gifted me. It is actually a dark, pinky nude on me which I wasn’t expecting but ADORE! I never knew I needed a shade like this in my life.

However, I can’t comment on how either of them wore because I didn’t touch up all night nor even look at myself in the mirror. I’ll put them to the test again next weekend šŸ˜‰

Thanks for reading!

What’s your go-to product for a night out?

Week Latte #12

ROLLY Mag

Hey hey, friends!

What a week! Hitting some big blogging goals this week as I’ve had a few brands reach out to ME asking to collaborate.

Honestly, that is WILD to me! If I can do this whole blog/IG thing, anyone can! I think I’ll write about it a bit more in depth another time.

Hope you have some spare time because there is a whole lot to read here. Enjoy!

It’s always interesting to read articles like this about “influencers“.

I was so intrigued when Sam talked about affirmations on her stories. Definitely something I’m keen to read up on!

Scrimp City” by Girl Boss is a fun take on a No Buy.

O M G this coat is only $60!!! Still more than I would pay for most things hahaha howeverrrrr for this style it’s a bargain!

TerraCycle is such a great initiative that not only enables us to recycle more, but also educates is on HOW to… because it’s confusing, don’t you think?

Made a visit to The Design Files this week, which I haven’t done for a while. I love this site! #dreamjob 😜 I would love to live in QLD because of the beautiful beaches and warm weather… imagine owning this!! Don’t think I could leave my beloved Melbourne culture and coffee though- at least not permanently. Writing this, I’m like, sheesh; the world is my oyster! I could up and leave to Queensland if I chose to… I’ll go daydream about it now šŸ™Š

Winslow Boutique is a gorgeous Melbourne based brand that make my favourite accessories… earrings!

So exciting to see a fab IG blogger featured on Mamamia. Read Hannah’s super informative article on SPF here.

My fave Gyan Yankovich has just started her new role at Man Repeller! Literally, girl boss! Arch Digest have taken us on a tour of their office and omg as if I didn’t want to work there enough already!!

And more MR/Gyan goodness: career questions, answered!

Ok, yes I did spend too much time over the long weekend finding Aussie jewellery labels!

This Sportsgirl mini sloth heatpack is too cute šŸ˜

Skam’s, Vilde talks body confidence.

Omg there is new makeup at Revolution and the gold + leopard is a dream!

Thinking of trying hyaluronic acid? Same!

I love one product review posts like this one by Emmie (she’s the queen of review posts actually!) but I just never seem to do them. Making a review post a priority… keep your eyes peeled!

I have literally read Carly’s blog since forever. And now she bought a house. Adult mode fully activated- yay!

How gorgeous is this Aussie based brand Lika!?! They have a gorgeous eyeshadow palette that has been reduced to just $25, plus you can use the code “10ME” for a further 10% off! It gets better… you also get a choice of one of four lipstick shades for FREE with any purchase. I know!! Free shipping on orders over $35, or just $5 for anything under. Winner winner. It’s too good!

The lovely Ashley from I Choose Me is launching an online store next Friday (July 5th!) and it’s a capsule of gorgeous, everyday clothing that literally everyone needs in their wardrobe. Andddd if you check back here next week you may jus find a discount code! Go show Ashley some love in the meantime.

Also I did a thing where I bought two lipsticks from Maarks Lip. Ha, no buy! I got the shades Blush and Bare and they are heaven.

I think I might just stop it there. This week’s fave are an accumulation of a draft from weeks back and a few recent links. So it’s a big ol’ post.

Happy reading, friends!

The key to my heart? Beauty, books, jewellery, scrunchies, dogs.

Scrunchies, makeup and earrings are my jam, people. I ordered the cutest cherry print and the black and white pots scrunchie from Rush Rush Co., and they arrived with a cute hand written thank you notes. It’s the attention to detail like this that makes buying from small business such an enjoyable experience.

V and Me Custom Designs

Another talented Melbourne business, Catherine of V and Me had a ā€˜buy two get one free’ on the new Isabel earrings. Naturally, I bought them! Barnu By Georgia

I really admire Georgia, she’s my age and at a similar stage of life- but in edition to that, she has her own business! I purchased two pairs of her earrings in the recent restock… with all profits going towards Save the Children Sudan.

Still waiting for these to arrive but I’m excited!

The Marc Jacobs illuminator is stunning. But $40!? 😱

Peter Thomas Roth is a good trial pack… but I have a huge collection of face masks already!

This Becca is gorgeous… although the reviews say the bronze shade isn’t very pigmented which is a shame.

Kinda obsessed with Tarte at the moment. Help.

Week Latte #11

ROLLY Mag

Hey friends, it’s been a minute since we’ve done a Week Latte hey?

Apologies.

When I first stared my blog, I thought there is no way I’d miss one of these posts. Ha.

But because I am so aware that I’ve missed a few, I thought I’d post this today ~ Sunday ~ rather than make you wait until Friday! So kind.

Alrighty, so let’s have a chat before I get into the links.

I’m a talker, so I feel like a podcast would be a great platform for me. If I had a podcast, this is what I would’ve talked about this week.

OMG A SPOTIFY AD FOR ANCHOR (A PODCAST MAKING APP) WAS JUST ON WHAT IS THIS JUJU BIG BROTHER WHERE U AT OMG!!!!

I picked up a few goodies from Chemist Warehouse this week…

First being the L’OrĆ©al Skin Perfection. This was on clearance for $10, and despite never having heard of it before, I had to buy it!

When I first used it, I swear I saw my pores disappear. It truly is magic stuff.

However, I broke out with a severe rash around my eyes and nose the day I used this product. I don’t think the L’OrĆ©al is to blame… but I’m still scared to use it again.

I think the culprit is actually my Sukin Face Mist. As soon as I sprayed this on my face is BURNED! So weird, especially as that product should suit sensitive skin like mine. Nonetheless, I threw that out!

Also from the clearance section, this Sally Hansen nail polish gift set. How gorgeous are these colours?

I recently bought a SH polish in “Pomegratitude” and used it for a few weeks. I never usually wear nail polish, but I noticed how good the quality of this SH one is so I think nail polish is my new obsession!

I finally got my hands on the lightest shade of the Flower Beauty Concealer. Super excited to try this very hyped product!

Also! Got these two from Bositos. I am not an essential oil worshipper, I simply enjoy the smell and habit of them.

Haul over. Other thoughts:

– I’ve been struggling through a very longs period of bad skin. Agh. My skin was doing amazing for the first three months of this year! The last three months have been tricky. Despite this, I’ve totally stripped my makeup back. Minimal is my mantra. I just do spot concealer, powder in my T-Zone, brows, mascara and lip balm. Easy as.

Music update: I am loving the new JoBros album. Eight year old me is screaming.

A super insightful read from Girl Boss, Jane Lu.

The Rise of Scientific Bloggers; I love being educated on IG by these fab ladies. Hannah (above) is one of my faves!

PSA: Target jeans are on sale for $30 or less. Add to cart.

Need-to-watch movie list.

My faves over at V&Me released a new style… the “Aria“. And I cannot believe I am lucky enough to be gifted one! *10000 heart eyes*. Mine is rose gold with the standard 51cm chain and stamped with the Leo star sign. Of course I will share it with you when it arrives. Catherine shared this sneaky peak on IG… I am actually so excited omg.

Jamie Paige is my latest YouTube obsession… she is a cream product lover and I am scared of them- lol. But I’ve been hashtag influenced to buy a few cream product to test under her guidance. Updates to come! Let me share some of my faves!

Glass skin

Drugstore Dupes

5 Best/ 5 Worst Techniques (um, reverse foundation is a thing?! Need to try!)

I was bummed to miss out on Willy Lit Fest this year but Babbling Books has shared a reading guide so my FOMO ain’t so bad šŸ˜‰

Hope you enjoyed this big catch up / link love post.

“Favourite links” posts like these are my faves to read on other blogs because I find so many new people to follow… so if you have any suggestions of what I should read/watch/listen to/buy please leave them in the comments.

Big love xx

Sarah’s Day x Veux Review

ROLLY Mag

I have mentioned this before, but I’m a sucker for good advertising.

The Sarah’s Day x Veux Sunglasses collaboration is a perfect example of this.

I saw the images, and the concept of ā€˜blue light glasses’ for the first time… and I was like ā€˜yep, need.’

But I had limits. I wasn’t spending over $60 for them (the prices weren’t advertised.)

Ha ha ha when I ended up paying $75 for them.

BUT!

Since I’ve received them, I’ve used and loved them.

So, with the restock approaching (Edit: the restock went live TODAY!!) I wanted to share my thoughts, in case you were contemplating the purchase.

First impressions, I love the transparent pink and the subtle logo.

But, if you notice on Sarah’s head they look quote oversized… on me, they *just* fit.

And I would say I have an average sized head.

So keep that in mind. She must have a tiny head!

In terms of how they feel on the eyes, I noticed a difference straight away. They sort of have  yellow tint to them. It’s not overly noticeable once you’ve worn them for a while but initially, yes you see a difference.

It’s like the night mode on your phone, but in glasses.

I don’t have much of an issue with blue light… I’m often on my phone right before I go to sleep and usually can fall asleep fine.

So for me, wearing them is more of a protective factor.

I really enjoy them, and I am definitely getting my money’s worth.

However, this style may not be suited to your taste.

Baxter Blue and Quay have a heap of stylish options and at a cheaper cost.

I’d love to know your experiences with blue light glasses? Share in the comments below!

June Editor’s Letter

ROLLY Mag

Hello and happy June!

Halfway through this year and WOAH am I right?

Thought I’d share some goals for this month’s editor’s letter- and I’ve honestly really tried to make them as non-clichĆ© as possible. No ā€˜eat better’ or ā€˜exercise more’ round here… this month at least. I would love to know your monthly goals in the comments below.

– Read ā€˜The Flat Share’: In the past, I would literally read a book a day. But when I entered VCE and reading was shoved down the priority list, it has become harder and harder for me to get back into the habit of doing one of my most enjoyed past times. So I would like to at least knock off one book on my TBR. After this, I need to start the ā€˜Court of Thorns and Roses’ series, as per my bestie’s request.

– Be brave and wear a gosh dang red lip! The web series “Skam” is my current obsession and the character of Noora has the most understated yet stylish fashion sense, and same goes for her makeup. She wears a bare face but a signature red lip. I would love to emulate that look… but I’m scared!!

– Paint my nails more regularly: I had bought a Sally Hansen colour therapy polish (shade 191 Pomegratitude) which is rare for me as I’m usually a Sportsgirl sale nail polish person. But when I did finally end up using it, I noticed such a difference in the quality. And I loved how it looked. You truly can look so much more ā€˜put together’ by having your nails done. So, even though taking it off once it’s chipped etc is annoying, it’s worth it in the long run! So I’d like to make a habit of it.

– Moisturise my body! I am such an avid fan of facial skincare but neglect the rest of my body. Even though we have heating, I hate getting out of the shower and having to wait around for my moisturiser to “sink in.” I just want to put my pjs on straight away! However, I want to make a conscious effort to moisturise more.

– I have heaps of blog posts sitting in drafts that just need pictures to accompany them and then they’re set to be published! But I have a busy work week ahead and then I have a girls weekend away, so I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to finish them up. (Case in point, the picture I took on a late night Bunnings trip is in this post lololololol) Nonetheless, blog posts are headed your way! Comment your blog/IG in the comments and let’s be friends.

Who else is ready go kick their goals? I sound way more enthusiastic than I am- right now I just wanna stay in bed haha!

Happy Best Friend Day

ROLLY Mag

In the spirit of Best Friends Day, (next Saturday the 8th of June!), I thought I would share my experience with friendship… particularly the transition from high school to ā€˜the real world’.

But first… a discount code! If you follow me on IG, you’ll know that I am always on the lookout for a bargain. The lovely ladies over at Kellective by Nikki are giving you and your BFF 10% of their ā€˜Friendship’ necklaces in celebration of Best Friends Day. Use the code “bestfriendday”.

The lovely Catherine from V And Me Customer Designs is also doing a special bff discount… enjoy!

I’ll start with some background. In high school I had a ā€˜core’ group of five (including me) friends.

But I also had two of my best friends at school that were not in that circle, and my other BFF who didn’t go to my school.

Catching up beyond the schoolyard was difficult enough in Year 12.

We had to juggle part time jobs, school work, family, sport and other priorities. Life was busy.

Even at school, we often had clubs/events/meetings/study at lunchtime which meant that we weren’t really ā€˜catching up’ at school either. Sometimes, we even scheduled a catch up at lunch!! We all knew to keep our diaries clear for that one day.

Nonetheless, we were seeing each other every single school day.

Honestly, as of the last day of school… all of that changed.

It is even harder to catch up now because we all have different schedules, and priorities.

That has been a significant lesson I’ve learnt this year- priorities.

I was experiencing a huge shift in my own priorities, and meanwhile, as were my friends. But understanding this is still a struggle to me. I like to think of the saying, ā€˜we often judge the person, not the situation.’ It helps me find perspective on a lot of things.

We truly have had only a handful of catch-ups since school finished. It’s been over six months.

I have found peace in believing this: they were my friends for that chapter of my life- my high school friends. I am extremely grateful to have had them for that.

They are my still my friends in this chapter of life, but at a different capacity. And that’s okay. It’s normal.

One of my high school teachers told me that she booked a dinner with her friends six months in advance so that they could all coordinate to be together. That’s friendship.

And when I think of the love languages, I definitely respond best to words of affirmation. I want to be appreciated for my effort. Because friendship does take effort. It’s a two way street.

I’m not too sure what my point here is.

My core group of friends and I have two events coming up that we will all be together; a birthday and a weekend away. It took a lot of planning- purely because there is larger number of us.

Organising with my other friends isn’t as tricky because there is simply less of us to coordinate. But my friendship with them is different too. I see them as my adult friends, not just my high school friends.

I think I have experienced a certain sense of loss with my high school friends.

But I am grateful for what were, what they are and what they will be.

I guess I want to say, if you are in this situation, you are not alone, and what you’re feeling is valid.

There is so much more to post high school life than your new path of education. That’s what they don’t tell us.

I know I definitely would have appreciated a warning about the shock of adjusting to our new life.

New- In Drugstore Beauty

ROLLY Mag

The gorgeous Jessica Riga did an old school style blog post where she talked through some of the new kids on the beauty block.  As much as I loved that blog *adds to imaginary cart* most products were, let’s just say, not available at Priceline. So I thought it would be fun to share some new in beauty bits but the drugstore edition.

Sportsgirl Tinted Lip Balms

I first saw these when Kim from @i_shall_shop shared them on her page… and it was maybe a week or so later that I saw them on Sportsgirl’s website and IG. Let’s talk firstly about the packaging. Not only is it a gorgeous rose gold, it’s also magnetic! The ingredients of this formula include coconut oil- which says to me that Sportsgirl are working to make their beauty a whole lot more on trend but also considered. You might associate a fashion retailer’s beauty foray with something plastic and gimmicky but these lip balms could be foreshadowing a whole new direction for Sportsgirl beauty. There are three shades all at $12.95 each… aka a steal! Plus, they’re bound to be in one of Sportsgirl’s regular sales.

A very similar product on the market right now are these ones by Nude by Nature–  a slightly bigger colour range and price. Available at both Priceline and (newly!) Chemist Warehouse.

L’oreal Glow Cherie Range

This range consists of a Skin Enhancer Foundation (with watermelon extract- that’s a thing?), a Melon blush (very pretty to be fair, wonder if it’s scented?), Highlighter drops (in the same melon shade as the blush) and a setting spray. Get your glow on.

L’Oreal Lightweight Matte Lip Ink

This packaging is so luxe, and I’m not going to lie, I’ve already bought the red shade! My fave formula in a hippie is matte and liquid so this ticks all the boxes for me.

L’Oreal are on a roll with new Aussie releases, as their Paradise Primer Extatic has also hit the shelves of Priceline. Personally, I don’t see a need for a lash primer… but I would love to try the mascara from this range.

Glam by Manicare have released two new duo brush kits, one for ‘Precision Brows’ and one for ‘Precisions Eyes’. They look like such good quality and I think I’ll try to snap them up when they’re next on sale.

Australis

The cult fave ‘Neutralize’ palette now has a BFF with the ‘Mesmerize‘ palette launched earlier this month. I picked it up in their half price sale and can assure you it is MESMERISING!!

They also have a new finishing powder and highlight kit at Priceline. AND OMGGGG a minis set! It is teeny tiny and cutest thing ever.

Revlon

So many new product launches for the overseas summer make me even sadder that it’s Winter here in Aus! Immitate a summer glow with the ‘Glow Gelee’ from revlon. This formula kinda weirds me out, not gonna lie, and for the price I can’t see these products being worth it. They also have two new ‘Draping’ palettes which are tiny in real life but beautiful.

The check tint also seems a bit of gimmick and not something I’ll be buying.

Barry M

So much newness from Barry M hitting the shelves of Priceline. Like all the other releases I’ve talked about, this rage is all about about that glow. Their new eyeshadow palette is all metallics which is right up my alley, however the colours are perhaps a bit too ‘out there’ for me.

Rimmel

Their new ‘Lip Art Graphic Liquid Lipstick’ already has a place in my beauty collection, although now I do think ‘why??” as you only get 1.8mls for $18.95 RRP.

Bourjois

OMG, so ‘foundcealer’ is a thing? Foundation plus concealer in a stick formula has been put to the test by the beauty babes themselves, @glossco and @the.life.of.laura who both loved it and found it wore very well. Deffo picking this up when it’s on sale.

The highlighting palette is beyond divine, @i_shall_shop bought this and said it’s a bit too much glow to be worn by itself but as a bronzer or blush topper it is divine. Add to cart.

LLIVIA BEAUTE

Technically not drugstore, but a drugstore price. I am literally hustling to get this post out to you guys in time to snap up the single highlighter for just $12 in the 40% off sale (use YAY10K at checkout). This is such a beautiful Aussie brand, go support them and get your glow on. Their full size highlighter palettes are literally beautiful.

Blistex

Two new lip balm ‘Infusions’ from Blistex that contain ceramides to help retain the moisture in your lips. I’m intrigued.

Bio Oil

They have a new Dry Skin Gel that comes in three different sizes and is definitely something I’ll be buying because I 1) love Bio Oil the OG and 2) can always to with extra hydration for winter.

Revolution Makeup

This brand has recently launched in Priceline, and whilst I’m sure you’re all aware I just wanted to add it on here in case because, um, NEED. I’ll be starting my collection with the concealer.

You guys, I could literally go on and on and on but I have to stop somewhere.

If you want to stay up to date with the beauty newness, follow me on IG (plugplugplug). My stories are the place to be šŸ˜‰

Happy shopping friends!
