2020 Project Pan – Blogmas Day 22

ROLLY Mag

I had a look back at my original 2019 Project Pan blog post, in the hopes I could do an update on it… but I realise there is not much to update you on. So, I am combining my 2019 updates with my 2020 project pan goals.

Rimmel Bronzer / here

I had aimed to hit pan on my Rimmel Bronzer, but never got there. This is because:

1) It literally seems to last forever

2) I’ve discovered new bronzes including this Elf one and this Fluff one

3) I don’t wear a full face (bronzer is included in my full face) very often! Therefore, the product itself isn’t being used very often.

And so, I am adding this bronzer to my 2020 project pan alongside a few other products.

Physician’s Formula blush / here

Blush- as a category- was a new discovery to me in 2019. I have totally fallen in love with the product, including ones by Elf and Flower. I do really like this PF one as well. It’s very subtle, which means I have honestly been reaching for it most days, over my other two. If I keep up using it like I do, I should be able to hit pan this year.

Revlon Lip Tint Cushion / here

My lip product collection is, ahem, out of hand. And it’s all similar dark rose shades. I have a type.

This particular product is so easy and non-fuss to wear, but it’s also not overly long lasting. I’m hoping to reach for this a bit more often and finish it. I would definitely repurchase (once I finish this one gosh dang it), and am keen to try some other shades.

OMShe Primer / here

This was my holy grail for so long- and honestly it still is! It’s the perfect all rounder primer. However, I do love a mattifying or glowy primer- something with a purpose. And so I’ve stopped reaching for this so much. It’s getting old so I’d like to try and use it up.

I only have a few products here, to start with. A lot of products I do want to finish, and empty, but I will add them to this list as the year goes by.

How did you go with your 2019 Project Pan?

#ProjectPan: Empties

ROLLY Mag

Hey everyone!

I’ve categorised this Project Pan / Empties series together on the blog- hope you don’t mind!

You can read the other instalments here, here and here.

I’ve actually finished a few products that I challenged myself to “Pan” earlier in the year, so feeling very accomplished!

St Ives Body Lotion:

I have had this body lotion for the longest time. I discovered it as a child and have always repurchased it. It’s lovely and thick but not sticky, and it smells subtle. I am really trying to use body lotion more frequently 1) because I have so many I need to get through and 2) my skin needs a little extra TLC in winter!

Will repurchase!

Sukin Natural Deodorant:

This product smells nice enough but it’s the spray application that lets it down. The sprays runs down the side of your body which is not pleasant on a freezing Melbourne morning. I use it in conjunction with a regular deodorant stick so can’t comment on the effectiveness. I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it. Therefore…

Won’t repurchase.

Avene Thermal Spring Water:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; this is no ordinary water in a can. This is magic water! I have already repurchase TWO of the big 300ml bottles but can’t find this size in a trial pack (which is how I originally got my hands on it). And it’s $10 by itself. Not a bargain. So even though I won’t be able to travel with this bottle anymore, I love the product. (The 300ml bottles are two for $19.99 at Chemist Warehouse which IS a bargain!)

Already repurchased.

Natio Young Oil Free Moisturiser:

I have had this for a while but I remember buying it in a rush because I just needed an “everyday” moisturiser. I would apply it before my SPF and it was fine. I didn’t really notice anything particularly oil free about the formula but it was ok. Only recently however I have noticed that this products pills. Like crazy! Maybe because it’s old but omg I couldn’t believe it! So it’s a no from me. I just used it up so I could stop using it!

Won’t repurchase.

Glow Lab Night Cream:

I discovered Glow Lab when I got a mini pack for Christmas and have since repurchased the full size night cream and serum. This night cream was a nice, thick consistency without being sticky. It isn’t overly scented either. So it’s nice. And when used with the serum I think they make a lovely combo. However, there are so many night creams in the drugstore and in my own collection, and so…

Won’t repurchase (at least, until I’ve finished what I have!)

Glow Lab Serum:

As I mentioned above, I’ve used this before buying this full size. It’s a simple serum, I won’t say I saw any outrageous benefits from it but I liked it. However, as I finished the bottle, it was really hard to get the last bits out which felt like such a waste. So, for the same reason as the night cream-

Won’t repurchase.

Rimmel True Match Foundation:

This foundation, I won’t lie, I share with my mum! So we got through it a lot quicker than I would’ve by myself.

I really enjoy this foundation, and say it’s middle of the road in every way. Not too matte nor dewy, not too light nor heavy coverage. Just right. But, like most products, I have so many other foundations to try (including a back up of this one!) so I…

Won’t repurchase (yet!)

The Body Shop Powder Foundation:

As you can see, this foundation has been well loved… and sadly has come to the end of it’s days. I actually continued using it for about 2 months after this photo was taken- can you believe! I got every bit of life out of it possible haha! I have adored it, it’s absolutely perfect for lightly dusting over the top of foundation to matte down the look. I panic-purchased an Australis powder to replace my beloved Body Shop one, but 100% without a shadow of a doubt…

Will repurchase.

A dodgy but more accurate picture of the current state of this powder!

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara:

This is my go-to mascara. It was sooooo hyped up a few years ago and when I first tried it, and I actually didn’t love it. I think there’s a knack to applying it. But now, I would say this is my ride or die mascara. I am comfortable using it for a bold lash, or just a light coat for everyday wear. Sadly, I had to throw this out as it was getting dry and crunchy beyond repair. Once I work through my pile (no joke) of backup mascaras, I…

Will repurchase.

Avene Cleanance Expert:

I first used this brand when my Dermatologist gave me a sample, but this product I’ve just finished I purchased in the full size. I actually have a backup mini to continue using now as well. Yay! Really gentle on the skin and effective overnight at reducing the appearance of pimples but not at making them disappear altogether. I want to experiment with other products but I do enjoy this, so…

Will repurchase.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face and Body 50+ SPF:

My ultimate SPF! I’ve purchased so many bottles of this stuff during my time! But I’m excited to get on with a new SPF (nothing crazy, still Neutrogena!) and test it out. I find this perfect for summertime but it would be great to add some hydration to my skin in combination with SPF in the cooler months. Is this next part even a question?

Will repurchase (forever and ever and ever.)

Phew! That feels like sooooo many products but I would say it took about 6 months to use up most of these products- so that seems fair.

And now, onto the next lot haha!

What have you hit pan on recently? Tell me in the comments!

#PROJECTPAN MONTH 2

ROLLY Mag

Hi everyone, March has gone so quickly and doing this Project pan post sort of wasn’t at the top of my mind. Oops. But here we are…. better late than never.

I have two #ProjectPan posts on the blog already, so you can catchup and read them here.

Initially, I thought that I would have monthly pans… but that has turned out to be extremely unfeasible. I haven’t hit pan/finished any of the products that I’ve shared here previously. This is because…

  1. I don’t wear makeup enough to get through my products monthly and 2. when I do where makeup, I only need such a small amount!

I was making quite a dint in my primer and BB cream during February, but i think wearing makeup more frequently freaked my skin out. So I’ve pulled it right back, which is making it hard to use up those products.

But! I do have two new skincare products that I’m hoping to use up by the end of the year (rather than the end of the month!)

Sukin Signature Hydrating Mist Toner: I use this to set my makeup, but honestly, I often forget! It smells delish and is really refreshing. I wanted to buy the other scent however I thought if I could challenge myself to actually make use of this… then I’d treat myself. Anddddd i think it would be fun to try using it for it’s purpose as a toner.

Simple Cleansing Oil: I bought this in the hope that I would start doubling cleansing. That has not happened because honestly, this product smells horrible! It’s really not an enjoyable experience… however, it does get makeup off well. I’m not totally put off from cleansing oils, I want to try this Sukin one and this Swisse one… but I will definitely not be repurchasing. I think to get my use out of it, I will use it in the shower, as I find it a bit messy haha but that could just be me. Hence, I’m keen to try the Swisse one because it has a spray application.

So there we go! How have you been going with your #ProjectPan. Let me know in the comments 🙂

#ProjectPan Month 1

ROLLY Mag

Hello friends!

In an effort to be a more consumer this year, I am joining the Instagram community’s hashtag #ProjectPan and trying to ‘hit pan’ and/or ‘use up’ some of my makeup products.

Easier said than done, particularly when I rarely actually ever wear makeup.

Since stating my new jobs, I have been wearing makeup about 4 times per week (very out of the ordinary for me!)

So now that I am wearing it more frequently, I am hoping to atcually make a dent in my collection. However, I have noticed my skin has become *textured*- perhaps as a result of makeup? It’s not pimples as such, but agh I can’t explain it any other way that texture!! It could be due to other factors, but I am definitely contributing more frequent use of makeup as one!

So, for this post I thought I would quickly update you on the products I posted in my #ProjectPan initial blog post… as well as some new additions!

My primer, BB cream and bronzer I showed you in that post still haven’t been used up. However, I’m not upset about it- I knew this would happen as I simply don’t wear makeup often enough to use it up in a month. However, using it the last two weeks (at least 4 times per week), I have noticed a significant reduction in the products… and hope that by next month, I will have finished the BB cream at least.

The primer is hard to use up because you only use such a little bit at a time. And the bronzer, I would like to hit pan on by the end of the year… that sounds crazy but I think it’s also reflective of my makeup usage haha.

Two new additions to my #ProjectPan line up are skincare related.

First, this Natio Young Oil Free Moisturiser. It does the job, but it isn’t particularly indulgent or pampering (understandable, considering the target demographic.) So I am keen to use this up so I can move onto my Glow Lab night cream!

And secondly, this Sukin Natural Deodorant I have had for agesssss. Similarly to primer, I use it frequently (ie. everyday) but only a little bit at time. Personally, this is the only natural deodorant I’ve ever tried. I like how it smells, the spray application is a little tricky but I don’t find it drips too much, yet I do use it in combination with my usual Nivea deodorant. I would repurchase for the smell alone, and because it is rather cheap, however, not for effectiveness.

How are you going with your #ProjectPan? Comment below… and I’ll see you again in month’s time for another update!

#ProjectPan

Make-up Monday

One of my favourite hashtags to follow on Instagram is #ProjectPan- it seems like the beauty community is really embracing a more thoughtful approach to consumerism this year. As a shopaholic like me, doing a ‘No Buy’ is like going cold turkey… not something I think would be a suitable way to curb my spending habits (at least right now… it is definitely something I will try at some point this year!) However, I do like the idea of shopping more consciously and ‘shopping’ my own beauty collection ie. rediscovering what I already have.

So, I thought #MakeupMonday was the perfect place to jump on the bandwagon and share with you some of the products I am trying to use up or ‘hit pan’ on.

Hopefully this style of post will be a monthly occurrence, and at the end of the month I will be able to share my ’empties’ with you… however I don’t think it’s possible to use these products in the final two-ish weeks of January, so I’m giving myself until February 14th to use these up!

Starting small with two products is, personally, multi-purposeful:

  1. I don’t actually wear makeup everyday, so…
  2. when I do wear makeup- I want to be reaching for these items

#1 The Body Shop Skin Primer Matte It

I have had this, like most of my makeup, for agessssss. I really like using it on my face, however I’ve used it on my eyelids as a primer previously and it dried them out severely- so getting a dedicated eye shadow primer is also on my beauty wish list! Apart form that, I really enjoy using this, it feels nice, works well etc. I have two primers that I rotate between hence why I have two half-full products! I’ll try and use up this one before I move on to the next! However, this primer is so old that I’m not sure if they still sell it, or some new and improved version of it.

#2 The Body Shop Vitamin E Cool BB Cream

This is coincidently another Body Shop product I’d like to use up! I usually reach for my Essence Foundation when I wear makeup, but this product is honestly one of my faves- natural, light weight finish- I just forget about it! If I wear it it often enough, I will definitely be able to finish it within the month, as there isn’t much left. Again, I’m not sure if they sell this, or some updated version of it.

So those are my two products I’m aiming to use up this month… however my year-long #ProjectPan is this Rimmel Bronzer. This is the only bronzer I have, so I’m not sure how it’s lasted me so long- it just keeps on giving! They have definitely updated this product but sell a similar version. I like it because it’s natural and easy to blend… so I will probably repurchase once i finish it… maybe in this year’s Priceline Christmas sale I’ll buy it again when I finally finish this one haha.

I’d just like to add, I know that makeup products have ‘use by’ recommendations. My makeup is ‘old’ because I just don’t wear it that often and have the same products for one, two or three years ago! However, I think it is personal preference as to how long you keep/use a product. Personally, all the products mentioned above still work and don’t cause my skin any damage, and so I am happy to continue using them.

Thank you so much for reading! Are you challenging yourself to your own #ProjectPan? Share in the comments 🙂
