#ProjectPan

Make-up Monday

One of my favourite hashtags to follow on Instagram is #ProjectPan- it seems like the beauty community is really embracing a more thoughtful approach to consumerism this year. As a shopaholic like me, doing a ‘No Buy’ is like going cold turkey… not something I think would be a suitable way to curb my spending habits (at least right now… it is definitely something I will try at some point this year!) However, I do like the idea of shopping more consciously and ‘shopping’ my own beauty collection ie. rediscovering what I already have.

So, I thought #MakeupMonday was the perfect place to jump on the bandwagon and share with you some of the products I am trying to use up or ‘hit pan’ on.

Hopefully this style of post will be a monthly occurrence, and at the end of the month I will be able to share my ’empties’ with you… however I don’t think it’s possible to use these products in the final two-ish weeks of January, so I’m giving myself until February 14th to use these up!

Starting small with two products is, personally, multi-purposeful:

  1. I don’t actually wear makeup everyday, so…
  2. when I do wear makeup- I want to be reaching for these items

#1 The Body Shop Skin Primer Matte It

I have had this, like most of my makeup, for agessssss. I really like using it on my face, however I’ve used it on my eyelids as a primer previously and it dried them out severely- so getting a dedicated eye shadow primer is also on my beauty wish list! Apart form that, I really enjoy using this, it feels nice, works well etc. I have two primers that I rotate between hence why I have two half-full products! I’ll try and use up this one before I move on to the next! However, this primer is so old that I’m not sure if they still sell it, or some new and improved version of it.

#2 The Body Shop Vitamin E Cool BB Cream

This is coincidently another Body Shop product I’d like to use up! I usually reach for my Essence Foundation when I wear makeup, but this product is honestly one of my faves- natural, light weight finish- I just forget about it! If I wear it it often enough, I will definitely be able to finish it within the month, as there isn’t much left. Again, I’m not sure if they sell this, or some updated version of it.

So those are my two products I’m aiming to use up this month… however my year-long #ProjectPan is this Rimmel Bronzer. This is the only bronzer I have, so I’m not sure how it’s lasted me so long- it just keeps on giving! They have definitely updated this product but sell a similar version. I like it because it’s natural and easy to blend… so I will probably repurchase once i finish it… maybe in this year’s Priceline Christmas sale I’ll buy it again when I finally finish this one haha.

I’d just like to add, I know that makeup products have ‘use by’ recommendations. My makeup is ‘old’ because I just don’t wear it that often and have the same products for one, two or three years ago! However, I think it is personal preference as to how long you keep/use a product. Personally, all the products mentioned above still work and don’t cause my skin any damage, and so I am happy to continue using them.

Thank you so much for reading! Are you challenging yourself to your own #ProjectPan? Share in the comments šŸ™‚

Face Mask Inventory

ROLLY Mag

#Skincare Sunday

In an effort to use up the products I’ve got… I thought today’s post would be a ā€œface maskā€ inventory. I have so many, and don’t use them nearly enough. It’s a habit I’m going to work on šŸ’Ŗ I would love to know how you face mask? Is it a ritual for you?

Innisfree

Back: Shea butter

Front: coconut

I love anything that is hydrating and creamy, so these two sound perfect! Innisfree has the biggest range of face masks, that section of the store is heaven šŸ˜

I also have two of the capsule recipe pack face masks in canola honey (above) and bija and green tea (below).

I also have the green tea mask to try from them that came with new member pack on my first purchase.

Garnier

I picked up a bunch of these masks around exam time last year when they were in the sale at Coles. I wanted to get into weekly face masking but I honestly struggle with this habit because I’m lazy, I forget, and I find masking a bit boring. If I do it in conjunction with maybe meditation or listening to a podcast, I might have a better chance šŸ˜…

Hydrabomb soothing x1

HydraBomb Rebalancing x2

Palmers

This coconut oil hydrating facial mask is my most used mask, maybe because I find the application easier and more comfortable? It smells so nice and the change in the moisture and ā€œplumpnessā€ of my skin is noticeable after use. See more here.

Sukin

New purchases from the Priceline Christmas Sales are these two masks. I reallllly struggle to make decisions when it comes to beauty- most other aspects of life I find decision making easy- so the sheer choice of masks from Sukin was overwhelming šŸ˜… However, I choose these two based on scent (coffee AND coconut- yum) and skin type (sensitive). I’m excited to give them a go, now that I have especially bought a Kmart face mask applicator tool (?) to use alongside these masks. I am tempted to add to my collection though… and they are still on sale at Priceline. Stay tuned…

Coffee and coconut exfoliating masque (above) and Pink clay facial masque (below).

A Mini Beauty Sales Haul

ROLLY Mag

If you follow along on Instagram, you may have seen me freak out about Sportsgirl’s 25% off beauty sale. I had a few days to think about what I *really* wanted, before I treated myself to a few pieces. Honestly, I could have gone crazy in there- but I hopped with intention *gasp* and only picked up 3 items on this shopping trip.

Sportsgirl

#1 This lip plumping mask is so similar (in packaging) to the one by Laneige- which is $26 from Sephora- eek! Ideally, I would have preferred this in the watermelon flavour, but my local store only had strawberry.

#2 I’ve had my eye on these Unmasked Rose Eye Mask Patches for a while, but when I went in store- I was sold by the tester which smelt and felt amazing!

#3 Whilst I didn’t get this, I wanted to include it because it’s on my Wishlist and I’m sooooo bummed it was sold out! It’s a super cute leopard print headband in such a soft material! I probably wouldn’t wear this out of the house lol but will definitely wear it for more than just keeping my hair out of my face when applying makeup!

Priceline

#1 I love serums and oils, and this Sukin Hydration Elixir was recommended by @lewkswithnat Can’t wait to give it a try- looks divine!

Week Latte #2

ROLLY Mag

L-R: @MademoiselleJaime, @TaraMilkTea, @emshelx, @cloveraccessories

Hello everyone and welcome to another Week Latte-woo! Super happy to have posted a blog post everyday since I launched the blog on the 29th of December… however this ā€œseriesā€ is definitely one of my faves to create ā¤ļø

I thought I would add a section to these posts like ā€œwhat I’ve been reading/watching/eating etcā€ however I quite like these posts just purely for sharing content I’ve loved rather than making them about ME ME ME which is what the rest of my blog posts are about šŸ˜… What do you think? Is there a place for this? Maybe a dedicated post over the weekend where I can fill you in on my life? Or nah? As always, I’d love to hear what you have to say in the comments!!

Without further ado…

This is the one aspect of my life that I struggle in handing over to the universe. I know that I should trust the process but my micro-managing self obsessed over things I can’t control. Really appreciated this read.

Wardrobe Wishlist

ROLLY Mag

I am trying to be a more conscious shopper in 2019… living vicariously through Wishlists has- so far- been getting me through. Here is a little round up of what I currently have my eye on at Supre!

Love the leopard, satin skirt trend and this is such a fun take on it… although not sure if I’m brave enough to wear it šŸ˜…

https://supre.com.au/ruffle-hem-midi-skirt/8052246-17.html?dwvar_8052246-17_color=8052246-17&cgid=bottoms-skirts&originalPid=8052246-17#start=10

Love this jacket… I’m looking for uni-appropriate clothing and I think this is just the thing! However, I love the pink and leopard separately so I’m not sure which I’d choose!

https://supre.com.au/oversized-sport-jacket/8051569-19.html?dwvar_8051569-19_color=8051569-19&cgid=newin&originalPid=8051569-19

This is such a classic but fun body suit!

https://supre.com.au/party-tie-strap-bodysuit/8052832-01.html?dwvar_8052832-01_color=8052832-01&cgid=newin&originalPid=8052832-01

This dress is so sophisticated and perfect for the workplace! I’m impressed to see that Supre offer this!

I don’t have a classic black denim jacket but when I do make the purchase, I’ll definitely consider this! Love the slight crop too!

https://supre.com.au/70s-cropped-denim-jacket/8053224-02.html?dwvar_8053224-02_color=8053224-02&cgid=newin&originalPid=8053224-02

Such a fan of hair accessories and I don’t have a white one!

https://supre.com.au/pleated-satin-hair-scarf/8051906-102.html?dwvar_8051906-102_color=8051906-102&cgid=newin&originalPid=8051906-102

Have had my eye on this since before Christmas… I don’t know what’s stopping me! It’s actually more beautiful in person! Also comes in black with silver hardware if you want something more subtle.

Thought I would also add in this Cotton On Body Wishlist- inspiring me to workout… maybe.

Get Your Sh!t Together- A Review

ROLLY Mag

Image via ASOS as I couldn’t get a nice pic of my version without the library sticker gahhh!!

Happy #WordyWednesday everyone! On Monday night, I sped-read Sarah Knight’s second book ā€œGet Your Sh!t Togetherā€… it had been in my holiday TBR pile, but I had neglected reading over the festive season- so the night before it was due back at the library- I read it!! Albeit, I did skim-read the final chapter which detailed fear of failure and self perception- something I would have liked to read with more focus. So, in a slight spoiler into what I thought of the book, I will be purchasing my own copy so I can

1. re read it! And

2. Write notes in the margin… I’m not one to do this often (In year 12 it was a begrudging necessity but I’d never in my own book!) but I feel like it would be useful for marking the points that apply most to me and my life. To narrow down the advice, somewhat.

With that said… here’s my review!

Like many readers, I went straight to Good Reads when I first heard about this book. The reviews are so mixed!! Most of the criticism centres on Knight’s ā€œtry hardā€ humour and useless advice. I disagree. Although I would warn that if you’re easily offended, this is not the book for you. Not only does Knight insult you (or the Chipmunk version of you #IfYouKnowYouKnow) she also calls you out and forces you to asses yourself. I can imagine a lot of people won’t be comfortable with this- but I think that is why the book works so well. How can you help yourself- or anyone- if you don’t know, first, what needs helping? Knight wrote this book after her own life overhaul- she’s been there, done that. Personally, I respect life experience as more-than-good-enough validity to write a self help book. And, again, in regards to the humour in the book- I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily my type of funny, yet, I did enjoy the sarcasm and the IBS joke was particularly good. (As were both the vegan and Jonas brothers references šŸ˜‚)

My Year 12 life (2018) was riddled with procrastination that stemmed from the fear of failure (as Sam from The Perfectionism Project taught me). Whilst this realisation from Sam helped me identify and understand my procrastination, for the first time ever (in a way that I foresee will work for me), Knight presented a method for combatting procrastination. It was, frankly, a good slap in the face to my serial-procrastination ways. This may have been too harsh to read for others who were not ready to accept and change their behaviour (hence some of the savage GR reviews).

However, GR also had a lot of love for Knight. Namely, her practical advice. She detailed goal setting in a way that was useful but also different to the drudgery that old men- ā€œstudy gurusā€, who had been out of the school system for approximately 628 years- presented to me and my cohort time after time during ā€œthe most stressful year of our lifeā€. I tell you what, I would have like to have read GYST last year- it would have made organising my life a whole lot simpler and more effective. I also would have like to have had a copy on hand to slap those old men with. (Whilst screaming ā€œGYST!!!ā€ Obviously.) Goal setting- according to Knight- is SO simple. But we tend to over-complicate it. That’s why I loved the message of this book. It took the unnecessary sh!t out of life, and replaced it with succinct and adaptable strategies- not rules!

Some of my favourite advice:

⁃ Switch your focus from The Thing That’s Causing Your Anxiety To A Thing That Makes You Happy

⁃ When in doubt: don’t think, DO

And my absolute favourite!

⁃ GYST BINGO!

I am going to create this for myself, by choosing three things I’d like to accomplish everyday. If I achieve two of them, I am winning at life! If I achieve less than two, not winning! If I achieve all three of things in one day, I kinda expect Knight to write me a personal congratulatory email.

I think it’s such a good idea for optimising your productivity- aka GETTING SH!T DONE! If this was a competition against others, it would have very little effect on me. I’m hardly competitive (except at Uno). However a challenge for myself is something that does motivate me! (Ps. My end of year goal in 2018 was to ā€œwin at Englishā€… spoiler: I did not. And it hurt. But that was then and this is now šŸ˜…)

I would like to add, also, that I did not ā€œloveā€ this book as a whole. But I really liked it. I’m sorry for my lack of distinguishable adjectives. Some parts were not applicable to me at this stage of life. But the three most valuable pieces of advice that I mentioned above made this book so great (for me!). I look forward to re reading it- as I think that is when I will truly grasp the concepts. Furthermore, (sorry, year 12 English is still in my blood), when I do re-read this, I won’t read it it one big chunk like I did in my jam-session upon my first read. I think in short chapters would most benefit me, so I can reflect after each one and plan to integrate that chapter specifically into my life.

Overall: I do recommend this book. But be open minded and take your time with it to get maximum results.

Ps. I wrote this whilst listening to P!ATD ā€œPray For the Wickedā€ and I think ā€œ(F!ck a) Silver Liningā€ makes the perfect background noise to reading any of Knight’s work šŸ˜‚šŸ‘Œ

10 Facts About Me

ROLLY Mag

For today’s ā€œTickItOffTuesday I’m sharing 10 things about me as a sort of introduction… just some things that may not ever be told through a regular blog post! And I would just also like to add that the layout of ā€œTickItOff posts is styled like a list, hence why I’m sharing these facts today despite the fact you can’t ā€œtick them offā€- if that makes sense šŸ˜… I’d love to know a random fact about you too! Please share in the comments!

(Ps. Totally random pic of my scrunchie collection accompanies this post 1) I didn’t have anything else lol and 2) I feel like I should have included another fact- I definitely have an obsessive personality. As you see above, I’m an avid scrunchie collector!! I’m obsessed! Also obsessed with boy bands, lip balms and sales šŸ˜…)

#1 My favourite flavour / scent is coconut! Ice cream, chocolate, lip balm, face mist etc šŸ˜

#2 I’m a Leo… and most Leo-y person I know šŸ˜… Quick tempered, like being in control, headstrong, ambitious, loyal, generous etc. I love being a fiery Leo!! I really want to get a necklace of my star sign šŸ˜ I have one from Supre but I hope to invest in one that spells out ā€œLeoā€. And to go with this, I believe in astrology and stat signs- I find it fascinating!

#3 I am so ticklish! Like, ridiculously.

#4 I used to think that slipping on a banana peel was a myth… until it happened to me! Full on, legs flew up in the air and I landed smack on my bum to a crowd of year 8 onlookers. I’ve only known myself and my mum to have ever slipped on a banana peel- typical šŸ˜‚

#5 I don’t have a middle name… but I made one up as a child and it’s sort of stuck! Although it’s not official. And also, Rolly is not my real name! But I won’t be sharing my true *IDeNtitY* on here until I feel comfortable to do so…

#6 I am an introvert- although I am confident and comfortable socialising and being around people, I need to be alone to recharge and would definitely choose staying in over going out.

#7 I am not a fussy eater and love pretty much everything! I’m not one to choose to eat banana but I do freeze it for smoothies… and I don’t like anchovies or mussels… but all other food I’m like ā€œget in my bellyā€. I love food.

#8 I have a very long list of favourite books, including but certainly not limited to…

⁃ The Song of Achilles: Madeleine Miller

⁃ Carry On: Rainbow Rowell

⁃ We were liars: E. Lockhart

⁃ The book thief: Markus Zusak

⁃ Turtles all the way down: John Green (a recent read!)

#9 My long term career goal is to have my name in the credits of a film! I love watching all the names and roles be featured at the end of a movie and it is my absolute dream to have my name up on the big screen one day! Not as an actress haha but maybe script writer/props/production/management etc or even the food assistant’s assistant šŸ˜…

#10 My blog is currently a secret from everyone except you and me. My family and friends have no idea! I like the idea of keeping it to myself for now, just as I build and develop it. I will tell them eventually! I know they will all be supportive but it makes it easier to share my photos and words without knowing the real people who are seeing them. It’s also why I haven’t shared my real name or any photos of myself. I hope to do this one day… maybe when I reach 1000 followers on IG? Or 10000? It’s daunting šŸ˜… It’s just a safety precaution right now!

I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about me! Hi to everyone that read this blog, thank you for following along. Please share some fun facts about you in the comments!

ā€œNew Inā€ Makeup Haul

ROLLY Mag

Another ā€œnew inā€ makeup haul from 2018!

Myer

Chi Chi Buffing Brush: I’ve been looking for a brush like this forever and just bought it because I couldn’t find ā€œthe perfect oneā€… it’s nice but the handle is quite long… I’ve since seen that they sell a smaller one which would work better!

Chi Chi CC Cream: there were too options and I choose the Caviar one because it was moisturising whereas the other was anti ageing! This reminds me of the IT Cosmetics CC Cream- even in packaging- so I’m excited to try it!

Revlon Brush & Sponge Daily Cleanser: This is probably a scam product but I like the idea of spritzing my brushes everyday to make them ā€œcleanā€ between washes… I’m really just a sucker for spray products! It was on sale though so don’t worry!

Kmart

Facial Cleansing Brush: a face mask applicator… not a necessity but I’d bought two Sukin masks and thought it was fun. I wanted a two pack from Sportsgirl but they weren’t in my local store.

Big W

Chapstick Lip Oil: I’ve seen this online for ages but never in stores I was so happy to finally find it… but wish I got the peach flavour! I’m such a fan of lip oils šŸ˜

Barry M Gloss Me Up Lip Kit: I needed a lip liner, ok!? So I bought this kit and I’m so excited to use it! Lip products are my favourite to buy though I don’t use them as often as I should (although my lip balm collection is very, very frequently used!!)

Makeup sponge: just needed a new one! Although I broke my own rule of only buying things on sale… I got this full price for about $4 which isn’t a lot but of course after I bought it, every makeup sponge eve was on sale šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø Lesson learnt!

My Two Skincare Saviours

ROLLY Mag

#SkincareSunday

I have already recapped my favourite beauty products of 2018- but these products move beyond ā€œfavouritesā€, they are staples. I use them everyday and can’t imagine ever leaving them out of my skincare routine!

Bio Oil: I had a bottle of this in my beauty stash for years before I started using it. At first, it was for a patch of dry skin I had. But then I began using it for acne scarring and I truly noticed an improvement. My combination skin type seems to work well with this product however I can imagine that slathering oil into your face won’t work for everyone. This particular bottle came in a set from Costco- great value for money. Otherwise, it’s sold in any chemist or supermarket and often comes on sale. I have heard that Bio Oil contains ingredients not approved in Australia, however having done my own research I feel safe enough to continue using this product.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face and Body Dry Touch Sunscreen Lotion SPF50: I started using this around 3 years ago, (similar time to the bio oil!) I had never worn a daily sunscreen before and so this was my first foray into this area of skincare. I am so glad I did pick it up! I use it every single day without fail on my face and neck, after I’ve washed and moisturised my face but before any makeup. Or sometimes, I squeeze some sunscreen and moisturiser into my hands and rub it in simultaneously- it just depends how dry my skin feels that day. It really is non greasy and quick to dry- it would be a great option for your body too but for that I use Hawaiian Tropic. SPF is so important, especially in the Australian climate- and so it’s important to me to have a well performing profit in my daily routine. Honestly, this is my most loved and relied upon product to ever have been in my beauty collection!

If I could only take 5 items to a desert island- these would be two of them! (A lip balm would also be necessary- but I need some thinking time for the last two šŸ˜…)

Can you narrow your skincare saviours down to just two products?

Thanks for reading!

In the final few days of 2018…. I went shopping. For #SaleSaturday’s sake, I’ll show you what I got!

Chemist Warehouse

L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara: there were two options and I freaked out because I didn’t realise. So I got this one and I’m so excited to try it- recommended by Brooke Didas… who has amazing eye lashes!

W7 Banana powder: I’ve heard such good things about the Australis one- but this was only $2.50 so I decided to give it a try!

L’Oreal Sexy Balm in clear: this looks and smells amazing- like a regular lip balm but better!

Priceline

Models Prefer Crimson Shades Eyeshadow: love this palette- the colours are beautiful! I’m yet to test the pigment.

Glow Lab Face Serum: One of my faves, this is full size and quite costly for my budget but just so nice! I got it in the 40% off sale.

Models own lip liner: a necessity but I’ve never tried this brands one before.

David Jones

The Aromatherapy Co Stress Pulse point: excited to try this, smells delish!

Lanolips the essential lip tints: I’ve been dying to get my hands on these and they came up in the sale… which is rare! Excited to try!

Antipodes Kiwi Seed Lip Conditioner: a fancy lip balm for me but looks sooooo nice!

And this Innisfree mask I actually got for Christmas but wanted to share because I love masking (when I can be bothered) and this little pot is just so cute! I actually get two uses out of it… and there is such a good range too!

I made a point of telling you this was all bought in 2018, because a few days ago I shared my 2019 Resolutions which included shopping less!! However, Priceline have a massive sale on and I’m soooo tempted! Stay tuned xxx
