Ulta3 Haul

ROLLY Mag

For this week’s #SaleSaturday, I’m sharing my Ulta3 haul… all of which I bought in January- so don’t worry; I didn’t break my #NoBuy for them! Although I won’t lie, I kinda stocked up on makeup like this purely so I wouldn’t get bored throughout February- kinda defeats the purpose of a #NoBuy… but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Plus, I’m supporting an Australian AND cruelty free brand- win win!

I honestly, has never heard of this brand before… however upon initial inspection I was pleasantly surprised with their cheap prices! Thennnn I realised that at the particular chemist I was shopping at, they were reduced by 50%! And so, everything I bought came to a total of $80- which, considering the amount of products I purchased… is unheard of!

I am yet to try any of these products, but I definitely have enough stocked up to keep me going for a while! Enjoy!

Three primers… no noticeable scent but they all felt glorious when I tested them on the back of my hand. And my brother asked “why is your hand so glittery?” So, I think that is a great compliment to the illuminating one hahah.

Shadow sticks… similar to the Bobbi Brown ones I would think. This is just so convenient for application and storage- obsessed! I got the 4 shades- a brown, gold, silver & rose gold (they do have official names haha) and I got two of each…

I’m really wanting to try The Ordinary Serum foundation- but in the meantime I thought this would be a fun one to try (shade Beige). It’s a dropped applicator, which is always fun.

This brow product and lip liner both took my interest because of the convenience! The brow product comes with a spoolie (I never know how to spell this hahah) and the lip liner comes with a sharper as a lid! Practicality will always win, in my opinion.

I would love to know if you’ve tried any products from Ulta3- comment below! Of course, I will keep you all updated when I eventually test these products out. So stay tuned…

Week Latte #6

Week Latte

@teamjaggad, @mycreativityrocks, @emmafranceslev, @the.healthcode

Happy Friday, everyone! I have been posting less than usual on the blog and on IG this week due to my work life getting busier! The juggle is real… and I don’t know how I will balance uni and another job come March. But, we are here now… and so I present to you my favourite things from the Internet this week… no froth 😉

I am so honoured and excited to have been featured on Bel’s blog “5toTry” this week… talking all about my favourite subject ever; LIP BALM!!!! Go show the post, and Bel, some love! And keep an eye out for her other guest blog posts 😉 https://the5totry.com/blog/2019/best-buy-lip-products-with-rollymag

Congrats to Snez, Sam and family. Always keeping it real hahah https://www.mamamia.com.au/snezana-pregnant/

Used my 15 minute commute to listen to an episode of The Health Code with special guest… Steve Cook! It took me two journeys two work, and two journeys home to get through (purely because of travel time) but I loved it! I am also soooo curious about people’s morning routines. https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/the-health-code/id1367139815?mt=2

On my super exciting trip to IKEA this week, I also stopped by the most incredible Kmart! They had this planner, but in a beautiful forest green colour for $10. i think it would be so practical for work, not to mention pretty! But I didn’t pick it up (restrictions of a No Buy) and it’s not online… so sad! https://www.kmart.com.au/product/planner—grid/2221304

This Jaggad sweater is sooooo gorgeous… yet sold out everywhere! High on my wishlist! https://www.jaggad.com/collections/women-new-in/products/stadium-zip-up-sweater

Discovered Emma Lev on Youtube… quickly becoming a new fave! And love this video… particularly because of that pasta recipe she shared at the end- must try!

Ok, so this is kinda embarrassing but this show is my absolute guilty pleasure! It’s sooooo bad it’s not even good. But I’m a sucker for bad reality TV…

More YouTube suggestions… hahah… because this week has been so busy, I’ve found myself watching YouTube again as a way to relax. I’m a 1D fangirl through and through… no shame. This was way too fun!

How fun (and meaningful!) is this campaign for Valentine’s Day! Show your support to the Heart Foundation here.

Short and sweet this week, friends! Feel free to share your faves in the comments below… Happy weekend xxx

#NoBuy Update: Week 1

ROLLY Mag

Hello everyone! We are officially seven days into February… meaning seven days into my #NoBuy! You can read more about it here. Basically, I am shopaholic, and I dedicated the month of February to tightening my wallet and reducing my shopping habits.

Friday, February 1st: I had shopped the Priceline sale yesterday, so had thought I had my spendy-tendencies out of my system. But then I went to get a haircut… am I even allowed to get a haircut on a #NoBuy??? I did- and that was no problem. The issue was that next to the hairdressers… was Priceline. I bought the Lip Smacker lipbalm I wanted (but couldn’t find)… and some things for a giveaway. Felt like I could justify these expenses so that’s ok. Also bought the Essay Suoerfood pack from Woolies because it was 1) on sale, and 2) I couldn’t find it when I was at a different store yesterday. Justified. Andddd then I went into the city for work… where I bought myself dinner (takeaway food was initially out of bounds on this #NoBuy) and also went to Priceline. Again. It’s only Day One and I am bad at this… but I can still redeem myself!

Saturday, February 2nd: Went to DFO (tip: don’t go shopping = don’t be tempted.) Bought two pairs of work shoes… justified.

Sunday, February 3rd: Stayed home and therefore… was not tempted. Bought a few groceries which is allowed.

Monday, February 4th: Worked all day therefore no temptation, therefore NO SPENDING! Woo, a two day streak!

Tuesday, February 5th: IKEA trip with the bestie… a recipe for disaster. Spent most of today buying food from the IKEA restaurant and

  • a lunch box and icy mole moulds from IKEA
  • two t-shirts, a pair of shoes and a sticker sheet from Kmart
  • a travel mug from Howard’s Storage

Wednesday, February 6th: Despite going to the shops to visit Specsavers… I resisted temptation and bought nothing! Go me.

Thursday, February 7th: At work, too tired to shop. Hurray.

So, as you can see. I broke the ban on numerous occasions. But I have learnt, this week, that to not buy… I need to not shop. Sounds simple, right? But shopping is an activity for me (and my friends/family.) SO it’s hard to not going shopping, if that equals not hanging out with my friends. Nonetheless… I don’t see this week as a fail. I hope to redeem myself for the rest of the month… and I will probably extend my No Buy into March, to make up for this week.

How’s your No Buy going? Any tips? Leave a comment!

Skincare Sets

ROLLY Mag

Is it just me, or do you like to use matching/complimentary products from the same range, from the same brand? With haircare, I take no notice… but skincare- my obsessive tendencies like synchronisation.

I have so many lovely products stashed away, waiting to be used… but I’m hesitant to because I want to use the range together. For example, right now I’m using up my Natio Young moisturiser, in combination with Bio Oil because these I don’t have any relatives to these products and I want to finish them individually before I move onto another set of products. Does this make sense hahah? The trick is using everything at the same time… but who ever finishes shampoo and conditioner bottles at the same time? Same goes for skincare. And to be clear, I currently own all of the products I’m about to mention. I just don’t use them #obsessed.

Let me show you!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Serum, Gel Cream, Night Concentrate, Water Gel Lotion SPF50 and Eye Roll-On

This Hydro Boost range is so exciting to me, as I have combination skin. I have tried a mini of the Gel Cream and adore it… so I can’t wait to open my full sized version. In writing this post, I realised just how much of the range I actually have- oops.

Glow Lab Night Cream and Facial Serum

I first tried these products in a mini pack that I had received as a gift… I enjoyed them so much that I had to repurchase the full sized versions. These two products are the perfect night time beauty routine- simple but effective.

Natio Rosewater Hydration Moisture Recharge Night Gel Cream and Antioxidant Serum

These two products smell delishhhhh and feel so nice on the skin. The Natio Rosewater range has a day cream, cleanser, mist and mask (of which I recently bought!) which would be nice additions to this routine too.

Thanks for reading everyone! I would love to know if you use products in conjunction based on brand/scent/range? Comment below!

Have a great week everyone xx

ROLLY Mag

All the best from the internet this week… no froth!

@taboosanitaryproducts, @sarahs_day, @icovetthee, @kate.lavie

Hello and happy Friday!

This week started off slow… but has picked up major time 😅 I am beginning to get so busy with work and uni sheesh! And uni preparation has still been a major struggle gahhh! However, I had a realisation that other night… I am SO lucky that I have my struggles. They could be so much worse. They are challenging me to be better. And I am grateful for them. This late night mind-blowing thought reminded me to enjoy the journey! Deep chat, over… let’s get to it!

How convenient is this! Love this podcast! https://www.mamamia.com.au/you-beauty-podcast-spendy-savey/

Gyan’s final Buzzfeed post… she is a legend! https://www.buzzfeed.com/gyanyankovich/lonely-tips-help

Really enjoyed this video by Alix… definitely getting some of these products once I finish my “no buy”! https://youtu.be/dsl0MqvIy50

Could definitely relate to this “champagne taste on a beer budget” hahah… some great tips from Jaime!https://www.mademois-elle.com/how-to-look-expensive-on-a-budget/

Another recipe from Steph! Yummmm. https://justanothermummyblog.com/healthy-mexican-nachos/

More meal prep inso… this time, breakfasts! Once I’m at uni, I think I’ll be eating a lot of my brekkies on the go, so something that isn’t too strong smelling for my fellow train commuters is ideal haha- however, I think a lot of these suggestions would be great for snacks too! http://theeverygirl.com/15-healthy-breakfast-recipes-you-can-meal-prep-on-sunday/

I love the idea of self-care apps, but I just don’t have the room on my phone! Amazing to know what is out there!http://theeverygirl.com/the-best-self-care-apps/

My library book pile has sat, unattended to, for most of this month. I feel so bad having to return them unread. I think I need to to stop borrowing a pile, and just take one at a time- to reduce the pressure I put on myself to read them all. My next lot of borrowings will likely be influenced by this list 😉 http://www.katelavie.com/2019/01/2019-reading-list.html

Found this gorgeous brand via Chloe Plumstead’s IG… in love! https://theazurinastore.com

Spending so much time looking at a screen, I’m really hoping that the proof is in the pudding with these anti blue light glasses that Sarah’s Day released this week… did you manage to pick up a pair of glasses from the range? It was hectic 😅 I got these (now sold out) and my bestie got the matte black Gypsy ones! https://www.whitefoxboutique.com/catalog/product/view/id/42949/category/245/

One of my favourite ways to consume content is via email subscriptions! I found TABOO at the 2017 World Vision Youth Conference and have eagerly followed their journey ever since. I even have a tee shirt! Sign up to support them here https://tabooau.co/monthly-taboo-newsletter/

Hope you enjoy! Let me know your favourite read / find from the Internet this week in the comments below 😘

February “No Buy”

ROLLY Mag

Last week, when I went on my crazy organisation shopping spree- I came home to sort out my beauty supplies and was overwhelmed by how much I had.

It was ridiculous. And it made me feel, honestly, sick. Firstly, at the amount of money I had spent on it all. And secondly, at the sheer volume of STUFF. And stuff I wasn’t using (enter- the GUILT).

So it was with this, that I declared to my dad and best friend that I would challenge myself to a “no buy” in February. They both laughed.

“Great idea, but do you really think you could do it?”

I had/have all my doubts- trust me. But it was this reaction that made me want to achieve it even more!

So here we are.

This “no buy” also sort of came about because after the said shopping trip- I couldn’t stop thinking about the things I didn’t buy, and needed to go back for. So much so, I had trouble sleeping. And I hated that shopping made me obsessive in this way. The only thing you should obsess about is boy bands, and even then- in moderation. So it was with this feeling, that I knew something had to change.

I always thought that people who did “no buys” were miraculous humans. How did they stay on track and no get distracted by the SALES!!

This month, I have my brother’s birthday, Valentine’s Day, back to work, back to uni… all events that would usually call upon a shopping trip. Especially when buying presents- one for them, three for me. With work and uni I anticipate some days it will be easier to buy lunch than take my own- but I can’t (and I won’t!) be doing that for the “no buy”. Already, I can see that it will be hard.

And is it bad that I’m hoping to accomplish it, only then to go shopping to treat myself come the 1st of March?! 😬

I am doing this- above all else- to address my shopping ADDICTION. Because that’s what it is. But secondary to this, I wanted to become a conscious shopper this year. Shopping once or twice a week as opposed to my previous three or four times does not exactly make me the Mother Theresa of Shopping. I need to commit to this. I’ve chosen the shortest month of the year to do so very intentionally.

I’ll keep you updated, of course!

Will you join me in the “no buy”? Let me know in the comments!

Kmart Haul (In the name of organisation)

ROLLY Mag

Imagine a 44 degree day in Melbourne… hot as heck, with evaporative cooling (👎). What springs to mind to do on such a day? Why, organise EVERYTHING- of course.

This was me on Friday… so, naturally, my first step was to visit Kmart! Bless my bestie who put up with me and all my indecisiveness. It was intense.

So I have been itching to organise my makeup storage… it currently resides in random places with no rhyme or reason. I have one acrylic storage station that holds my “everyday” items… but that’s about it! I really wanted something that was easy to see, and looked tidy.

So I got a black wire shelving unit that is designed to be hung on a wall, but will rest atop my dresser. Sadly I could not find an image online, but would you be interested in a beauty-station tour? Let me know!

Next up, I got this “file organiser” to hold palettes and such.

I also then went back to Kmart the day after the bulk of these items were bought… because I NEEDED the matching drawers. I have my lip products and brushes in here. I had bought a small, clear (& ugly) two drawer system for this purpose… but for aesthetic reasons I repurposed that to hold my earrings and then be hidden within my dresser!

I initially got these drawers in the black for the study- they’re perfect because they fit scissors too! So everything is hidden away nicely. However, I repurposed them in my room for extra beauty storage and now my acrylic storage is for stationary!

I also got this pencil case… because #uni (it’s my excuse for EVERYTHING). If you look closely you’ll see the circle imprints on it. I love it, it was $3… but I’ve found two others I love from Typo also so I’m thinking… do I get one of them?? Help.

I also got some pretty pens for above pencil case and, again, uni.

I also got these pretty pins for my mood board… currently in progress.

More makeup storage!

And the finally, this calendar/planner that I am going to use for blog posts!

Who else loves Kmart? Comment below!

Weekly Makeup Basket

ROLLY Mag

AKA. My go-tos!

I love the idea of a “beauty basket”- holding all your go to makeup that you can add and swap items out of, on a weekly basis. So I thought I’d try with my own this week… and aim to narrow it down to five products, as I’ve seen on IG.

My primer, bronzer and BB cream are all from my Project Pan post. I’m really trying to get through them, however on holidays I’m barely wearing makeup once a week, so I don’t think I’ll be finishing these up this month.

My highlighter is from Sportsgirl and you can’t get it anymore but I love it! And it’s lasted me forever. I use this as eyeshadow too- love!

And mascara is my trusty Maybelline Lash sensational. I don’t like this for “statement” lashes- I find it too sticky. But if you apply it really carefully and lightly, it gives great length and bold colour to your lashes!

So I’ve realised that what I’ve mentioned above equals 5 products… oops. So I’m pretending primer is skincare and so my fifth makeup product is my Innisfree brow gel! I loveeeeee this stuff- makes brows so easy to do! (And this spoolie (?? Spooly??) is just on the end of a Kmart eyebrows pencil… I have since bought a pretty and proper one from Sportsgirl.

Of course, SPF and a tinted lip balm (Burt’s Bees in Red Dahlia preferably) are also included.

So it turns out I’m bad at this and couldn’t narrow it down to just five products- but you get the idea! A simple makeup routine that you don’t even have to think about- that’s my kinda thing. Although, I would like to get more creative with my makeup as I have so many products!

But for now, tell me in the comments what your go to make up items are? Thanks for reading!

Shower Stuff

ROLLY Mag

Happy #SkincareSunday ! Hope you have all had an enjoyable weekend.

Today I wanted to share my in-shower beauty products. A few coconut scented products (my fave) but not much else. I keep it simple… because does anyone else feel like showering is such a chore haha??

Whenever I need a pick-me-up though, a shower is my go-to remedy, so I like to make a mini paper sesh out of it.

I’d also like to add that in terms of shaving cream (highly un-photogenic), I kinda just use whatever. Body wash, conditioner etc although at the moment I am using the Gillette Venus Satin Care Sensitive Skin Shaving Gel (phew), if you were curious.

Ok, the juicy stuff.

Palmer’s Indulgent Coconut Body Wash: smells like coconuts, feels nice on my skin.

Nivea Pure and Natural Cleansing Lotion: I’m not even sure if this is supposed to be used in the shower (??) but I picked it up from the clearance section of Priceline and have found it really gentle on my skin and is good at getting makeup off. It may be discontinued as I haven’t seen it around since, however, I’m not too loyal to cleansers. My only criteria is that it is *gentle*- because I have learnt the hard way what a daily charcoal scrub can do to your skin (ie. don’t do that!!)

Sukin Revitalising Facial Scrub: as I mentioned above, I like gentle products. I only use this scrub about twice a week, and even when I do, it doesn’t feel too intense. Just enough to make my face feel renewed, but not violently stripped if you know what I mean. It’s a goodie.

Garnier Fructis Coconut Water Shampoo and Conditioner: if there is one area of beauty that I ignore, it’s haircare. I am certainly not loyal to shampoo and conditioner- I just bought this because it was on sale at Chemist Warehouse and it smells like coconut. My hair feels nice afterwards and that’s about it. In terms of other hair care products (there are so few that I can rapid-fire explain them right now), I use any random heat protector spray, or if I am out of that (like I am currently) I use argan oil. I also occassionally wack in some Garnier Fructis Anti Frizz Soothing Serum because it smells delish and my mum always has it in her beauty drawer so I just pinch a bit from her. And that, my friends, is the extent of my haircare.

Thank you for reading, as always! Is your shower routine minimalistic or elaborate? I’m also up for a shower gel recommendation- bonus points if it the scent transports you to the beaches of Hawaii. Leave a comment blow! Until next time!

Another beauty sales haul

ROLLY Mag

Another Saturday, another sales haul. It’s bad. But you guys, my shopping habits have improved- somewhat- this year since I started buying consciously. Hard to believe, I know. And, I still have a long way to go. But in the meantime, here are the goodies I picked up recently.

Big W

First up, we have this Nivea BB Cream – which was recommended by Bel from 5toTry. Whilst I am yet to try it for myself, Bel promises that whilst it looks scary upon first application- once you rub it in, it’s the perfect lightweight coverage. What drew me in was 1) it’s on sale and 2) living in Australia, especially in the summertime, I wouldn’t use anything below SPF 50, and so this ticked that box! I am hoping this will streamline my morning routines come ‘back to work’ time. However, I had intended to buy this from Priceline as it was about $9. My local didn’t have any, and I was devastated! But a quick google search showed me it was actually cheaper from Big W- so I got my hands on it there woooo!

I had planned to buy the Nivea lip balm tins as they are on clearance for $2 on Big W’s website. However they weren’t in store. Not too mad though because I got this sunscreen which I can’t wait to try!!

Priceline

It’s coconut and green tea scented- need I say more? I’m currently using a random Natio Youth moisturiser, but it really doesn’t do much for me in terms of effect, packaging or scent. So I think this beautifully designed and devious smelling A’kin Facial Moisturiser is the perfect replacement.

Haters are going to say I don’t need any more lip balm- in fact, I myself say the same thing! But I’ve been eager to try the Carmex Moisture Plus. I got the clear shade because I have a few sheer lip colours, so didn’t really need to add to that collection. However I am tempted to buy another colour because just look how slim-line this packaging is! I mean, I *need* it for my uni bag, ok?

I had a random look at the Essence stand and picked this I Need A Miracle mascara up thinking “omg it’s the one everyone hypes about! Yay and it’s only $7 woohoo!” However, in writing this post- once home- I realised this, in fact, is not the Lash Princess mascara that everyone raves about 🤦‍♀️ I was in shock that I managed to pick it up so easily because it’s always out of stock as it’s so popular. Yeah well, now I know why! I’m still hoping for a good result from this though… and better luck next time I guess. Gah I’m silly sometimes!

Myer

I am so excited by this Burt’s Bees lip balm and cuticle cream combo (coconut and lime) that I picked up for just $5 from Myer. It’s not online anymore so check your local store, and fingers crossed you get your hands on it! It was from a Christmas release that I’d had my eye on, but picked dit up by total fluke. It’s so cute!!

Hope you enjoyed having a little look at my new-ins! Thanks for reading, and happy weekend!
