Posting this in mid January… oops! I thought I had posted it already. Oh well, enjoy!

I got a new phone recently and finally connected it to my bluetooth. It’s so fun listening to podcasts when I drive now. However, I’m not driving far right now so one episode of Shameless takes me about three round trips to work to finish.

I don’t have Spotify, believe it or not. But I plan on getting it *soon*. So whilst I didn’t get to share my Sportify Wrapped, I assume my artists of the year include LANY, Julia Michaels, Lauv, Olivia O’Brien, HSMTMTS and Julie and the Phantoms. No regrets!

I got a new job this month. A casual job in a supermarket. Nothing crazy. But my best friend works there and we had imagined how fun it would be to work together. Ah, fun probably isn’t the word I would use to describe lol. But at the moment I’m managing it alongside my part time job at the school, another retail position and tutoring. I think once I have uni back in the mix this juggle won’t be so achievable.

Now for the fun stuff, I had my style consultation with Style with Fae which I won on Instagram. It was fun and I certainly learnt a few things. I think if you’re new to fashion or need a wardrobe reinvigoration a style consult like that is a great idea. I am lucky though that I have very fashionable friends such as Daisy who I turn to for advice very often.

At the end of the month, I shopped at the Black Friday sales. It was overwhelming but as the packages have started to arrive, I am happy with my purchases and think they’re decently considered. And will last me a long time ha!

I also managed to get away for one night at my friend’s beach house which was SO lovely. It’s like time doesn’t move down there. It was the perfect way to end the month, and rejuvenate before the craziness of December began.

I thought November was busy, but I ain’t seen nothing!

With uni being over and both retail jobs busier thanks to the easing of restrictions and Christmas time, I picked up quite a few extra shifts this month in my retail jobs.

The easing of restrictions meant I was also able to socialise again!

I kicked off my social calendar by seeing Daisy in the city, My first time both being in the city and seeing her since March! Far too long. I made a reel about our fun day out.

I also caught up with some high school friends, went to Imaginaria, had two work Christmas parties, reunited with Amy, met Doreethy and Azra for the first time and celebrated Christmas with my high school friends.

Suffice to say, good food and good times were had.

I truly don’t think I’ve socialised that much in my life lol. It was fun, and I’ve tried so many new restaurants and met some fab people, so I really want to challenge myself to keep up a healthy social life in 2021.

I also have to document here that I bought my first designer bag! Impulsively! I saw @ms_hannah_e share her Marc Jacobs Snapshot Bag in Blush Multi but couldn’t find it online anywhere… a week later I had a little browse at Facebook MarketPlace and lo and behold found it! I did a little negotiating, and within four days this baby was mine. I am so obsessed with the design and colourway. I am calling it a ‘congrats on surviving your first year of uni’ present to myself!  But like, I can’t believe that little old me owns a MARC JACOBS BAG!!!!!!!!

I also celebrated Christmas with two work Christmas parties, my friendmas and NYE with my friends. Again, lots of socialising for this introvert haha.

I finally picked up ‘Again Again’ by E Lockhart, that I’ve had on my shelf for a while.

I love Lockhart’s book ‘We were liars’, and ‘Again Again’ definitely had a similar vibe. You could tell they were written by the same person.

It was SO relatable in many ways, however, I don’t know how I feel about it overall.

Basically, there are multiple scenarios in which a scene could play out. You don’t know which one is true. Or which one follows the last, or comes next for that matter.

It sounds woo woo and confusing but it was actually nice to read.

I am still struggling to get into a better routine with reading, agh. I managed to pick up Zoe Sugg’s new book, The Magpie Society. I got it from Kmart which was a bargain at just $14! I’m struggling to really get into it though… It felt like it was aimed at a older YA audience but the writing style felt so young. After half way where one major plot is resolved, the story is confusing. What are we reading for? Major loose ends left by the conclusion… disappointing.

Cheesy Christmas films are here! My first one of the year was ‘Holidate’. Key takeaways, Emma Roberts does not age!!!! Look, watch it for these festive-ness but this recap is kinda funnier than the movie… Kmart Hemsowrth hahahah.

Shawn Mendes released a documentary (?) on Netflix called In Wonder, and I watched it via Netflix Party with a friend. Um… look, ever since Shawn’s concert in 2019 when the support act Dan and Shay were the highlight of the show, I’ve kinda felt a bit ‘meh’ about Shawn. This doco did nothing to improve that opinion. I think he is genuine and caring, and I was almost crying myself when I saw him crying, but that’s kinda all I have to say about that.

I also watched quite a few declutter videos on Youtube, inspiring me for my 2021 no buy!

My visit to the beach included an obligatory trip to Daniel’s Donuts in Portarlington. SO GOOD! However, I tried Ferrero and it was disappointing. I think Mars is my fave.

With socialising, I have eaten out a lot, which is my favorite pastime lol. Iced chais are my new obsession. YUM!

Also, so much pavlova because of Christmas. Not complaining at all.

I forgot to pack my entire skincare routine… so here’s the products I used instead

I went and stayed with a friend at the beach for three days, and I forgot all my skincare. All of it!!! All I had packed was my toothbrush, deodorant and body sunscreen. She isn’t big into skincare, but she had a few items I borrowed that saved me.

Funny thing is though, using so few products and swimming in salty water seems to have done wonders for my skin. It has cleared up and looks brighter, blemishes look less angry, and texture has reduced. How is that? I spend all this money on skincare for nothing it would seem lol.

It’s definitely made me realise that less is more and I hope to remember this when it comes to my skincare back home.

Let’s talk through the products…

Face sunscreen

I took my Bondi Sands Fragrance Free lotion to use on my body, but it is much too greasy IMO to use on your face. So luckily we had the Cancer Council SPF 50+ Day Wear Face Matte Invisible 4hr Water Resistant to use instead. It is slightly runnier than the pink version of this, but definitely has the same matte finish. There was no eye sting either. It was a really great option for swimming at the beach but I also think it is something I’ll pick up to use under makeup (when I get through my current face spf stash).

I have tried the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser in the past and wasn’t wowed by it. However, after two nights of use, I totally get why this has such a cult status. It is very gentle, but also extremely effective at removing daily build up of dirt, sand, pollution and sunscreen on the skin. I felt clean but not stripped. I think I need to be more mindful of my sensitive skin and I think this is a great option to do just that.

The first skincare brand I ever used was Sukin, but I haven’t used their Restoring Night Cream before. It was the perfect way to replenish my skin after long days spent outside. It’s nothing special but it did the job.

I was so grateful to discover the Dermaveen eczema ointment on this trip. I used it on my eyelids, which are still quite sensitised after I burnt them off with CeraVe’s SA cleanser on NYE- oops. It worked really well as a barrier cream and also restored the skin. I would love to purchase this myself but it comes in such a big tub, I would never use it all!

Body moisturiser

After our first day, my skin was feeling dry and rough. It was absolute heaven to lather myself in thick and cream Coconut Body Butter from The Body Shop. It was soothing and nourishing and made me realise I really should treat my skin – that isn’t on my face – more often. It’s a step I skip out of laziness :/

Does your skin prefer a ‘less is more’ approach?

Rapid reviews

Often in my IG posts I say, ‘I’ll keep you updated’ but somehow, I forget to.
I’m hoping this post will help clear up some of that. There isn’t a whole lot to talk about, but I’m hoping to do these posts little and often.

Medik8 Cream Cleanser (PR SAMPLE):
When I first started using this, I thought yeah it’s nice but it’s not wow. However, I had my bought of really sore and dry skin a few weeks ago and this stuff has helped me repair my skin. It’s so gentle, and feels lovely to use. It is very pricey for a cleanser, and usually I can’t justify buying spending money on a product that literally goes down the drain… however this one is a serious consideration to purchase myself. (PR SAMPLE)

I was excited to use an essence for the first time, but again, I had my horribly dry skin episode and @beautybyhiuy suggested that the essence- because of its gel like consistency – might be stopping everything else I put on top from absorbing. So I’ve stopped using it sadly. I did enjoy it but I just don’t want to take the risk. (PR SAMPLE)

ESK Hydroxy Overnight Mask (PR SAMPLE):
I have written about this mask here, but just feel the need to express my love once again. I had a particularly angry bout of ‘maskne’ and was at a loss for what do do about it. I popped this on the area, followed by my hydrating Lanolips overnight mask (Not my fave because of the soapy scent but works well). In the morning, the pimples had visibly reduced in size, were less red and just generally looked clearer. Using this as a spot treatment is definitely my favourite and most effective way to use this mask. (PR SAMPLE)

Bangn Body Firming Lotion:
I reviewed these on IG and honestly, was disappointed. Despite the EXTREMELY high praise these products get, I wasn’t sold. The scent was very intense, and it just felt like a regular body cream. I also have a problem with the term ‘firming’ because nothing topical is going to dramatically ‘firm’ your skin. However! I have been using this on my body, as opposed to my face, and find that I prefer the scent that way. It does work very well on my eczema too. I would be keen to repurchase this because I am enjoying it as a body cream… however, it would be a bloody expensive yet small body cream. So I’m not sure if I’ll repurchase in a rush.

Cerave Hyaluronic Acid Serum:

I’ve also reviewed this on the gram and found it was pilling when in combination with my other skincare. I was so disappointed, and so I put it to the side. But I gave it a try one night on top of my Avene Thermal Water and hyaluronic acid by Mesoestetic. And it worked really nicely! So I think the trick with this one is to make sure you apply the Cerave onto wet skin.

Mesoestetic Light Water Anti-Aging Veil SPF (PR SAMPLE):

I’ve had this in my collection for quite a while but I’ve just picked it up again recently. I like that the formula is so light weight, but will not purchase myself, with the $80 price tag. Even on my fair skin, it needs a lot rubbing in to not leave a white cast. However, it does feel nice on the skin and plays well with makeup. But I just can’t justify the price unfortunately. I’ll be on the lookout for a dupe in terms of consistency.

Revlon Lustrous Shine Lipsticks:
Admittedly I haven’t worn these much at all. I haven’t worn makeup much at all. But the few times I have worn these, just around the house, they’re been deliciously juicy, nicely pigmented and comfortable. Big fan.

Glam by Manicare Brushes:
I have been able to try the powder and eyeshadow brush from this range, as some powder
foundation and eyeshadow is all I’m wearing these days. . They have shed a few hairs but nothing too upsetting. I love the size and shape of the brushes, and they have a nice weighty (But not heavy) feel when you hold them. Plus they are an absolute bargain when they’re on sale.

Loreal Clear Brow Gel (PR SAMPLE):
I’m always on the lookout for a clear brow gel and this one ticks all the boxes. Not sticky, actually clear in colour (as in it dries clear), small and easy to use bristles. Tick tick tick! I’m loving it. I received this in a Bella Box (PR SAMPLE)

Have you seen any products on my feed you want me to give a rapid review?

Massive Black Friday Haul 2020

I had been saving up to go BIG at this Black Friday, and I think I went bigger than I imagined!

I plan on picking up a few more beauty bits at Boxing Day (hopefully just Colourpop and Hourglass… ) and then I will be on a STRICT low buy. I’m thinking of making a monthly budget for beauty products? I’m not really sure how best to do it but you will for sure come along for the ride!

I wanted to document all the purchases in one spot… so here we go😜

Beauty Bay

Milani Luminoso

This seems near impossible to get your hands on through Aussie sites like Priceline and Glam Raider, so I said enough is enough! Serious FOMO influenced this purchase.

Milani Sun SIlk Bronzer

Allie Glines and @mummakesitup are big fans of this so naturally, i must try it too!

Embryolisse Moisturiser

The cool girl moisturiser, also hard to get your hands on in Aus. I got a mini because I am hashtag responsible and figured I have so many others, getting a smaller size is a good way for me to try it out

Round one! This was during the 15-20% sitewide. I was super impressed, I order this on Thursday and it arrived on Monday!

Laneige Cream Skin

I love the mist SO much that I got the OG to pour into the mist bottle eventually.

Laneige Day and Night Skincare Kit

Heard great things about both of these, and it was good value.

Marc Jacobs Eyeshadow Palette in Cherrific

The packaging got me on this one… that’s all.

Marc Jacobs Luminizer Cherry Edition

Sephora Collection All Day Hydrator Moisturizer

@i_shall_shop and @beauty_withlauren are fans so of course, I had to give it a go. In the mini!

Round two! Cyber Monday Sale Purchases.

Zoeva 128 Cream Cheek Brush

This brush is always sold out, maybe because made it famous. It was 30% off so I snapped it up real quick!

Nudestix Set Daydreamer Face Palette

This was the first set my Nudestix I ever really looked into. The price just scared me off. Until it was 50% in this sale. I could not believe it. I was on my 10 minute break at work when I made this purchase and let me tell you I moved quickly!

Basics by B

I got the new Face Palette 2.0 and brush bundle. I should never have to buy brushes again! lol. I already have the first palette, but wanted to try these cooler tones. This arrived super quickly too, on the Monday after I purchased.

Cipher Skincare

I picked up the limited edition mini stack pack. I’ve already tried C Shield and BLAH, so happy to have restocks and newbies to try.

@amandascuteface and @harpersglow have both shared their love for this foundation, and I’m excited to try it. I’m also excited to support a small Aussie business, who are working on expanding their shade range.

TBH Skincare

@minniesmakeup and @beautybyhiuy made me do it! I ended up getting the OG bundle, even though the new cleanser probably appeals to me more. I did it from a value POV but am happy to try the gel cleanser in the future if these work for me.

@byamygee made me do it! Although she’ll probably tell you I was the bad influence… why, me? Never! 😉

I got another shade in the Glow Play blushes, this time Grand (to add to my That’s Peachy and Blush, Please collection.)

I also got Face and Body in N1 to try because C1 (which I got from Amuse) is a bit too yellow undertone for me. However, they only had the mega 120ml bottles left in stock so here’s praying I do like it lol.

Shot of Colour Lip Oil in Punch-Drunk Love – okay Amy can’t even deny this one, she influenced this purchase fair and square!

And their BF GWP was a Bronzing Powder in Matte Bronze. Intrigued! Strobe Cream in Pinklite was the complementary sample too.

I love the face oils but decided to try the new candle in the Tennis Party scent this sale.

Boost Lab

I’ve seen this brand all over my feed so I decided to give them a go. I was impressed that all their products are $29.95, and their BF sale was SO good, being ‘buy one get one free’ plus free shipping. So I got the niacinamide and retinol serums.

Chemist Warehouse

I got restocks of the Flower Beauty blush and eyeshadow brushes. Also managed to track down the Flower cream blushes in both shades. Also found a new L’oreal lippie which gave me EM Cosmetics vibes except in a matte formula. A few days later I also picked up the new Bondi Sands face spf.

Cult Beauty

Hourglass Ambient Lighting blush in Sublime Flush

I really don’t plan on supporting Hourglass much until they can show shade diversity. So this blush and hopefully their holiday palette (when I eventually buy it) will be the extent of my collection. This blush is described as a soft pink infused with lilac which is basically me as a blush shade so I am all here for it.

Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in Fair 2

I pray this shade suits me (it’s the same shade that and Jessica Braun wear) because it sounds like the glowy foundation of my dreams. Hope I don’t like it too much though because she ain’t cheap lol!

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Secrets Set

A great value mini bundle (the lipstick is full size)! Are you seeing the theme that I am justifying purchase when they’re minis? Oops.

The Inkey List Niacinamide

In hindsight, I wish I didn’t buy this because I later got the Boost Lab one, but anyways we will give it a go! I’m loving The Ordinary’s right now.

Technically this wasn’t a BF purchase, but it was like a week before so I feel like it deserves a place in this haul anyways.

Shine Lip Crayon in ROFL

Hoping this can be a Coloupop Just a Tint dupe because they are so hard to get your hands on right now!

The Sweep Life Brush Collection

Got this mainly for the blush brush that loves.

L-Balm Lip Balm in Feeling Rosy

This looks cute and practical for a work bag.

Gleamcatcher Illuminator in Moonbeam

Planning to compare this to the Nudestix liquid highlight….

Morphe x Maddie Ziegler Peach That Pops Lip and Cheek Duo

@sensitiveskingal loves this lip oil so I of course had to try! This combo is cute too.

Another super quick delivery, it arrived the Monday after I purchased! However, I received a second box from Priceline addressed to me and so I opened it and inside was someone else’s order and their packing slip. I called Priceline about this, and they emailed me a return slip which I had to put back on the box and return to the post office. I was happy to do this because I felt bad for the person who ordered it in the first place, but I was disappointed with Priceline’s lack of compensation for me. Like not even a $5 voucher lol?

I Heart Revolution Bronze and Glow

I bought this purely to see if it is comparable to the Charlotte Tilbury Bronzer and Glow!

Ecotools Ultimate Sheer Brush

Jessica Braun and Tanika Jaun are big fans of this for cream products.

Real Techniques Light Layer Highlight Brush

I also managed to pick up the bronzer brush from this range in store, but no luck getting the blush one – the one I wanted the most!

Revlon Kiss Glow Lip Oil

I love this formula so excited to try the new shades!

Savvy By Db Mineral Baked Highlighter

This is a @katiescosmpolitan recommendation! I’m pretty sure I remember her saying it is a MAC soft and gentle dupe…

Revlon ColorStay Brow Fiber Filler

Always keen to try a new clear brow gel, and this brush looks a unique.

Burt’s Bees Lip Treatment Overnight Intensive Blister Box

I talked myself out of buying the Colourpop and Revolution Skincare lip masks, but figured I could make room for this affordable Aussie option.

Revlon Powder Blush in Just Peachy

I saw these in stores and they said ‘new shade’ on the packaging but @icxbeauty has had this shade in her collection for a few months now. It looks so pretty and glowy!

Revlon Powder Blush in Hot Cheeks

This is apparently a new shade too! I ordered it because it look like it has NARS vibes, maybe Dominatrix or Orgasm X??

Maybelline Nudes Of New York Eyeshadow Palette

Ever since I saw @madelineedwards do this look, I wanted this palette. The neutral, earthy tones are unique to my collection so we will see how we go. Reading @emmiesbeautylife’s BF recommendations blog post actually reminded me to buy it haha.

ROLLY Reviews: ESK Enlighten

review, ROLLY Mag

4-n-Butylresorcinol… I can’t pronounce it but let me tell you what it is!

ESK Enlighten was received in PR from Black Sixteen Agency. All opinions are my own.

What is it?

(Description provided by brand)

Hyperpigmentation is a broad term used to describe concentrated areas of skin that become discoloured due to excess melanin production. Often harmless and limited to the face, neck, hands and chest, most common forms of hyperpigmentation include solar lentigines, also known as sun, age or liver spots; and melasma.

While treatment options can include intense pulsed light (IPL), cosmetic surgery and dermabrasion, tyrosinase inhibition is proven to be the most effective and safest treatment to date. Offering a gentle and superior alternative to hydroquinone-based formulations, Enlighten by Evidence Skincare (ESK) uses a relatively new tyrosinase-inhibitor, 4-n-Butylresorcinol (4nB), to lighten skin and reduce future melanin deposits.

Pronounced “4-n-beautal-resorcinol”, 4nB has been proven to be the most effective depigmenting agent when compared to industry alternatives such as hydroquinone, arbutin, azelaic acid, and kojic acid, and produce faster results in as little 6 weeks with less skin irritation.

Formulated with sensitive skin types in mind, Enlighten combines 4nB with antioxidant multitasker, niacinamide (vitamin B3), to help regulate normal skin cell function, improve the skin’s moisture barrier, and reduce the transfer of melanin to keratinocytes where pigment is deposited. In addition to its hyperpigmentation benefits, Enlighten is also shown to help balance sebum production, increase collagen synthesis, and reduce post-inflammatory redness.

Suitable for daily and long-term use, Enlighten can be paired with other active ingredients, such as vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids, for enhanced depigmentation and overall skin rejuvenation. Available globally via Evidence Skincare (ESK)

  • Powerful ingredient that treats hyperpigmentation
  • Formulated for sensitive skin types
  • Includes niacinamide which can be great for evening skin tone and balancing oil production \suitable for daily and long term use
  • Safe to use in conjunction with other ingredients

My thoughts

I was incorporating Enlighten into my nighttime skincare routine because my morning one is hit and miss – sometimes I do it, sometimes I don’t. By using the product at night, I was guaranteed to use it for a considerable length of time to test the effectiveness.

My skin loves niacinamide, and so I was confident using this product on my sensitive skin without any irritation.

I noticed that after a few days of use, my skin tone did appear more even, and my blemishes looked less red and irritated.

Note that I do not suffer from hyperpigmentation but do have an uneven skin tone.

I was very impressed with this product and felt like I saw benefits from using it.

The biggest downside for me, is the price tag.

Yes you are paying for a quality product, but I can’t afford to be spending that much money on a product I will empty quickly.

ESK did offer 30% off at Black Friday so I would definitely consider waiting for a sale to repurchase the product.

For another opinion, you can read IC x Beauty’s review here and The Caryl Edit’s review here.

Enlighten retails for $95 RRP (50g).

Black Friday 2020 Sales Guide

Happy shopping, friends!

My biggest tip…

Have a plan! Write your wishlist, from everything to brand, to shade etc. Be as specific as possible. You don’t have to stick to this, however it might help you stay on track and not get overwhelmed.

This plan might involve a budget for you too, so that is something to consider.

Shop smarter not harder! Make sure that you use Shopback, if you can! Sign up via my code here. It gets instant cash back for me and you!

Where to shop:

Beach Way Aromatics: 25% off everything! Use the code BFCM2020 at the checkout!
Minimum spend $50. Free shipping Australia wide. Afterpay available

Frank Bod: This sale doesn’t happen very often so I would recommend making the most of it!

Full Brow: This sale only happens once a year so you definitely need to make the most of this.

Sephora: If 2020 is anything to go buy, Sephora was having sales every second month… so if you miss out don’t fret. There will be another sale soon. 15% off orders under $120, 20% over $120.

Priceline: These sales happen a few times a year, so if you miss out it’s not the end of the world however you may have to wait 3-4 months for your next opportunity to shop half price at Priceline. 30-50% off most cosmetics brands.

Bettyquette: 20% off site wide. These sales certainly don’t happen very often so be sure to snap up these deals!

The Body Shop: These sales only happen a few times a year so I would recommend making the most of this deal. However, throughout the year they do have deals on certain products, like 2 for $$ etc, on peels or body washes so if those are products you want, it might be worth waiting.

Sephora Sale Haul (October 2020)

This second half of 2020, Sephora has been pumping out regular, enticing sales. I’ve shopped at three of them so far.

Their latest sale was 20% orders over $150, or 15% with no minimum spend. I decided to take advantage of this because usually I only qualify for 15% when they do membership sales.

I’ve been keeping a very long Sephora wishlist and planned on shopping at Black Friday, but this sale was a good way for me to split my haul across the two sales.

Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask

Initially, I thought I was going to buy the original Water Sleeping Mask, however, I watched this video and it made me realise that the Cica mask can do everything the water mask can and more! They also have this mini set which I plan on getting next sale so I can trial it!

Laneige Cream Skin Mist

I also planned on buying the toner version of this, however this mist was released the day before the sale and I thought I would try it instead. I think I can incorporate a mist into my routine a bit more easily (read: be bothered to do it) rather than a toner. I tried an Andalou naturals face mist and was like ‘oh my gosh I will never fall for this again’ however you know I love my Avene Thermal Spring Water Mist so turns out I am a sucker for the convenience of the application.

Fresh Beauty Lip Balm in Peach

I wanted the caramel scent but it was sold out, so I took to IG to see if you guys recommended coconut or peach. Survey says, peach! It smells delish, holy moly. Caramel is still on my wishlist though!

Fenty Beauty Pro Kiss’R Luscious Lip Balm in Latte Lips and Pinch Me

These are the only makeup items I purchased! I’ve heard great things about these balms, and have even heard they’re comparable to Lanolips. However, I like the stick applicator on these. And the colours! Also, I love Lanolips for the colour but I don’t find them necessarily hydrating. These, however, are very nourishing on the lips.

The Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid

I first received this product in PR and oh my gosh, you guys need it! It claims to ‘hold four times more moisture than hyaluronic acid.’ Whenever my skin is feeling lack-lsutre, I can rust this will fix it. It’s often out of stock, so when I saw this was available, I added two to my cart!

Sephora Collection Ultra Glow Serum

In this episode of You Beauty, Leigh Campbell recommends this serum as a dupe for a high end one. I’m not sure which one she was referencing, maybe the Sand and Sky Glow Drops? If so, the formula of the two is noticeably different, this one an oil whilst the S&S is a bi-phase oil so is less ‘oil-like’ on the skin. It contains vitamin E and C and marine algae and is suggested to be used as a base for makeup. Whilst I use it in the morning, I haven’t used it under makeup yet (lockdown life) and so can’t say if I like to apply it like that, but I can certainly see how it would be nice!

I was really excited about this haul, lots of things I’ve wanted to try for  quite a while.

As for the next sale, here’s my wishlist.

Laneige Mini Set

For reasons explained above 🙂 I’m not sure which one to go for…

Nudestix x Pony Park

I really like the blush and lip gloss in this set, but the highlight and eye product aren’t things I can see myself using regularly. That’s why I decided to hold off on purchasing it… I’m going to think about it some more.

Ultra Violette Lean Screen

This is new to the UV family, so whilst I know it’s coming to Sephora, I’m not sure when. Depends what the Sephora sale is too, to be honest. Otherwise I’ll buy directly from the site with @ms_hannah_e’s code ‘HANNAH20’

Sephora Collection All Day Hydrator Moisturiser

@beauty_withlauren recommended this, and it sounds like a hydrating and glowy product. I’m not sure if my combo skin could handle it in the warm weather but I would still like to add it to my collection. Lauren did use it in her PM routine so maybe it has a place there.

Fenty Beauty Cream Blush in Rose Latte

I really don’t need this, and when I saw how tiny they are IRL I thought ‘no way’. However, this colour is just so me.

Fenty Beauty Primer

@minniemakeup_ recommended getting the mini of this, and I think that’s a great idea 😉 I haven’t been wearing makeup, let alone primer, but it sounds like a great option for combo skin. (Minnie said it plays nice with all skin types!)

Fenty Beauty Lip in Glazed

I have this formula but in the shade ‘Retro Rose’ and it’s divine. Glazed is not too different in colour. But naturally, I still want it. It’s just so me, ya know.

Bite Beauty Foundation

This product was recommended by @biancaehill and honestly, even if she didn’t say she emptied it (a sign of true lover for me and fellow beauty junkies) the aesthetic is enough to intrigue me. However! I do not need anymore ANYTHING, especially not foundation. This is a one-day-in-the-very-distant-future purchase. But if YOU need a new foundation, maybe this is a good place to start?

What did you guys pick up from the Sephora Sale? I would love to see your hauls!

PS. This order arrived very promptly however, it also arrived MISSING the hero product, the Laneige Mist. So I waited about two weeks for that problem to be addressed and the replacement to arrive.

Declutters: October 2020

Saying goodbye to some products who I once loved, or never worked for me!

Revlon Cheekmaker

This was my first ever cream blush and I honestly think it is why I disliked them for so long. It’s a really tricky formula to work with, it blends out really patchy and even then, you barely get any colour payoff. Big no from me. Goodbye!

Sukin Coffee and Coconut exfoliating mask

This was sitting in my collection smelling yummy but being unused. I tend to go for a chemical exfoliant nowadays, or if I do use a physical one, I use the Innisfree Clay or the Neutrogena Bright Polish.

Garnier Micellar Milk

I don’t even know why I bought this in the first place. I barely use micellar water as it is. I hate the slimy consistency of this and don’t find it works very well at all. When it comes to the OG formula of this, if it ain’t broke…

Iryna Skin Foaming Cleanser

I was using this everyday as my morning cleanse, but as lockdown went on, I was doing less and less skincare. This easily fell out of my routine. It is heavily fragranced which Ii don’t enjoy either. If I want a foaming cleanser, I reach for 11 Pearls. (Won in giveaway)

Medik8 Physical Sunscreen

I am sad to report that this Medik8 has found a new home. I tried it and was really enjoying it. It was my first ever physical sunscreen. It had a semi-matte finish and applied well. But having to wear mandatory masks in Melbourne, all I can smell under my mask is this sunscreen. It’s sort of a ‘metallic’ scent. That’s the only way I can describe it. I think if you were to wear this without a mask, and under makeup, the scent wouldn’t be noticeable. But for me right now, it doesn’t work #just2020things. (PR SAMPLE)

I like to share my ‘new in’ items with you, but by the time I get to posting them they’re no longer that new. My bad. Despite that, I’ve only tried one of the products so far so I’ll give you my first impressions at the end of this post! All PR Samples with no obligation to post. 💫 @lanolips all over cream: well loved in the IG community and I can see this becoming a staple on my bedside table! 💫 @spascriptions.australia retinol oil: A retinol oil is really interesting to me because I currently use a cream product! They also released a collagen oil in this range however, my understanding is that there has been no evidence to prove that applying collagen topically results in the stimulation of collagen growth. And so, I passed that along to my mum to use as a hydrating product instead. 💫 @goodmolecules rosewater daily cleansing gel: I haven’t used a gel cleanser in a while and I think it will be good for the warmer months. I also believe that rose water can have anti-inflammatory properties which is perfect for my red and acne prone skin. 💫 @medik8australia press and glow daily exfoliating PHA toner: I’m SO excited to try this product! Not only does it look super sleek, but I think it’s a great daily addition to my routine. I will build up to daily use, though. Maybe every second day for now. I would love to know how you incorporate a daily exfoliator like this in your routine? 💫 physical sunscreen: I’ve never tried a physical sunscreen before this one, and I can’t believe it’s so different to a chemical formula. It takes a lot of work to get the product going, but then once it warms it it sinks into the skin well. I think it stung my eyes a little bit but wasn’t too bad. It also has a slight salty smell? Also not an issue but wanted to make note! I think for sweaty summer days at the beach or exercising, this will be a winner. It just feels a bit more heavy duty. But not heavy! 😅 It also plays nicely under makeup. I’m impressed!

Elizabeth Mott Eyebrow Mascara

This was a fave of mine when I first received it in a Bellabox but I’ve since discovered that I prefer other ways of applying brows. It was quick and easy for iso brows. However, I prefer to fill in my brows with a pencil/crayon/pomade and then set with clear gel. I’ve used this technique in the past, but only recently have I realised it’s actually my preferred method! I also found this wasn’t lasting a full day of wear in terms of hold, although it did in colour. So, does this mean it’s the end of my beloved Mco More Brows too? I’m not calling it quits on More Brows just yet, as I find that is just a great product anyways. We will see how much wear it gets in my collection now that I’ve discovered this ‘new’ technique though! (PR Sample)

Spooky szn has come and gone, Melbourne is opening up and I personally feel that this month has lasted years. Anyone else?

October Faves 💜 @eskskincare (PR SAMPLE) 🤗 I started using this on alternating nights. It does recommend to use it in the mornings but i’m trying to get through some of my Vitamin C serums in the mornings so changed up the routine placement. After using this for about a week – I had a moment. One morning, I caught a glance of my skin in the mirror and thought ‘oh my gosh I’m glowing.’ I’ve never really had a moment with my skin looking like that naturally. Now, I don't know if it is hormonal, a combination of products or the fact I’m currently taking primrose oil (as recommended by my naturopath, feel free to ask if you want to know more!) Regardless of the cause, it was an exciting moment. I wouldn’t be surprised if this product is helping my skin glow. The key ingredient is (deep breath) 4-n-Butylresorcinol (4nB) – (an alternative to azelaic acid, among other things!) It feels really nice on the skin, with a light, creamy texture, and plays well with our products. I’m excited! @ereperezcosmetics Lip Honey (PR SAMPLE)😘 I’m rarely wearing any lip products that aren’t a balm because of masks, however, the few times I have used this I’ve been SO impressed. The doe foot is slightly curved so it fits my bottom lip perfectly. I really like that unique touch. It builds up nicely but can also be sheer. It smells nice, has a nice pigment and adds a shimmer to the lips. This is definitely my fave product from the brand so far. @innisfreeaustralia Green Tea Seed Eye Cream 👀 I’m trying to use up some of my samples and so I started with this deluxe sample. A little goes a long way so I know I’ll be using this for a while. I really like the scent of this range and find the eye cream is a little bit thicker and creamier than the face cream. I would honestly use this as a face cream itself! I find my eye area needs an extra boost of hydration and I do believe in eye creams. Controversial, I know! @incrediblecosmetics Lip Balm (PR SAMPLE) 💋Two lip products in one month! This brand is now available in Priceline, and the blush and lip balms are definitely my top picks (so far).

As promised last month, I wanted to give an update on The Space Between – the book written by the two women behind the Shameless podcast.

It was wonderful! Insightful, introspective and funny. And as cliche as it sounds – real and raw. I particularly found the chapter on friendship not only heart-aching but relatable. Losing your best friend sucks. But that kind of platonic love is not often explored in both media, or ourselves.

Not only this book, but I think also the pandemic, has taught me a lot about friendships and how I will really strive to nurture them.

The book did take me a little while to read though because it’s composed of essays. You’re not getting lost in a fictional story.

And whilst it was enjoyable to read, it wasn’t addictive. I quite liked reading it little by little.

I would recommend this book to everyone, but particularly women like me who are in their late teens but not yet thirty. I think this book kind of acts like a warning – your twenties may not be what you imagined. But at the same time, it will teach you how to be okay with that, and relish in it.

The first few days of October I watched A LOT of TV.

Selling Sunset at the end of September kind of kicked it all off.

Then I went on to Julie and The Phantoms. This show is directed by Kenny Ortega, the mastermind behind High School Musical. It definitely had West High vibes. In a really good way. HSM is like my favourite thing ever so this was so up my street. But I can certainly feel myse;f getting older when this show is probably aimed at those younger than me. Nonetheless, I fangirled hard! My whole Tik Tok feed is JATP now- wooooo!

Next I watched The Duchess, which was a random choice. It was pretty easy and quick, and the fashion and interiors were INCREDIBLE! However the actual story line was about motherhood and so didn’t really relate to me and so I probably wouldn’t recommend it.

It is genuinely a goal of mine to watch TV more regularly. I really want to be one of those people who has watched full series of shows, and finishes their day with an episode or two. I guess I do this, in the way and amount that I watch Youtube. But I’m trying to rewatch The Hills before I watch the new version (Roxane told me it’s on Stan and I’m like how have I been hiding under this rock!!)

I started watching Emily in Paris because there was so much talk about. I tried to go in with an open mind and ignore the unanimous comments that it was so incredibly cliche and a mindless watch.

Didn’t take me long to realise, that’s true! I got through one and a half episodes. It was just utter trash. And I love trash. But this was too much for me. It felt like an early 2000s movie, it was young and naive and didn’t represent ANY social changes or movements that women have worked so hard for. The bitchy boss and the women competing with women in the office storyline. The ‘oops I went to the wrong floor of my building, French count in such weird ways. I’m American and so how we count floors is the only right way.’ Honestly, it felt obnoxious.  I am only speaking for the first 1.5 episodes here, but I couldn’t take it. Would not recommend it. Not even for the pretty setting of Paris.

I watched Deaf U on Netflix and oh my gosh, it was so good. really funny, heart warming and eye opening. Very short and quick too- if you watch anything, watch this!!

I got McDonalds bacon and egg muffins twice this month. I had a craving for them lol. Delish!

Real clothes! With the weather warming up, my iso uniform of tracksuit and hoodies isn’t cutting it anymore. I realise how easy winter dressing was this year. I’m genuinely like, how do you put together an outfit? What is a razor lol?

Shockingly to me- trust me- I started consistently working out this month. During lockdown I completed Couch to 5K and was really proud of myself. However, once I reached 5K I did it a few times by myself (without the app guiding me) and then I fell off the horse. Running for that long was boring, mostly. It was still a challenge, but I was bored. So I just didn’t workout for a few weeks.

For a few weeks, I promised myself I’d start tomorrow. Of course, tomorrow never came.

But the first Sunday of October, I woke up FULL of motivation. And so I started the Sydney Cummings challenge on YouTube.

This first day of this challenge was a lower body workout. The next day, I could hardly walk. I think it was because I hadn’t moved my body like that in so long.

I was on a roll! It was a 30 day challenge and I completed it on my own terms, working out 2-3 times a week. My motivation died three weeks in sadly lol.

I would really recommend this channel if you’re looking to start home workouts. She isn’t in your face intense or enthusiastic (sorry, I hate that ‘you’re doing AHMAZING!’ You can’t see me and this hurts!!!)

Why haven’t I had a ‘listen to’ segment in this post yet???

Better late than never!

Daisy reminded my of the Culture Club podcast and I enjoyed catching up on this and am fangirling over co-host @yemagz – I’ve bought some Soli Studio earrings she wore, and have wishlisted a lippie she shared too.

I also listened to the first episode of Single Minded and thought it was really great just for some life advice too.
